High definition DVDs are being released this year. The players just hit the market a little early.

Also... it depends on what type of players you are referring to!

You can get a high-def DVD player right now, that's capable of playing high-def MPEG-1, 2, 4 and WMV-9 files via disc or via a network connection ;)

I know the oppo is good for his price, but view it is not a blu ray player, i dodnt understand why people buy these players and then not having or finding any disc to watch.

in shops, they have only a few disc which are hidef, but most dvd are mainly pal (here in europe).no idea about the USA...!!

view the next realese of the PS3, i am certain all players will be blue ray, and the guy who have already purchased a hd player, will have to fork more for the blue thing!!!

my question came after reading posts from people having hidef projector and who want buy a hidef dvd player,...
I have a pjt, but not hidef, so I guess, the best would be to wait and see what format will come out.(we know it is blue ray but can i be wrong???)

Are there any HD DVD or Blu-ray players on the market? None that I know of. So yeah basicly these are just players able to play videos with higher resolutions, they wont play HD DVDs nor Blu-ray discs that are supposed to be released later this year (once they finalize the "screw the customer with AACS"-specs).

I know the oppo is good for his price, but view it is not a blu ray player, If you are referring to the Oppo OPDV971H, please note this player is only capable of "up-scaling" std-def sources to high-def.... it can not handle high-def sources.

i dodnt understand why people buy these players and then not having or finding any disc to watch. There's plenty of high-def MPEG-2 content being broadcast around the world. Some of which can be captured and stored on HDD's... and in-turn be played back via a suitably equipped high-def capable player.

However, they have to be spun in a player that has been fitted with a high-def capable decoding chip-set, such as Sigma's EM8620L chip-set.

Happily all Sigma's EM8620L chip-set based players are fitted with network and USB2 connections, so it's possible to stream high-def content to the player via these connections also ;)
