Xvid Problem.

Well, hello I am new here I never got to say hi...so umm, yeah, the problem I'm having is my own.

Do i really need to use the two passes in Xvid to have nice quality and small size? Because when I do i get a nice small size on my first pass then on second pass I get a huge 400 MB or more file. I have read the over/under sized sticky and I don't understand it...so if possible how do i solve/fix this problem and can you possibly explain in simple terms because I'm soo new to this I just might not understand...sorry to be a bother and for all the trouble. I hope you guys can help me out.

It's easy to get small size on first pass. All it saves are blank frames, the whole size is the sound. ;p There is a "full quality first pass" option, but it's likely to come out enormous if you use it, because first pass uses the closest xvid gets to lossless.

You can do a normal one-pass, but what two-pass does is smooth out the quality. In one-pass, you get areas that look really perfect, and areas that look really blocky, especially in sudden switches between high and low action, and it's jarring at lower bitrates. Two-pass tries to make the whole thing look nice and consistent. But you should be able to control what size you get through bitrate; there are numerous bitrate calculators to do that, as well as tools like AGK that do it all for you.

There's also a one-pass constant quant mode, who always enforces a rough level of quality, but you have no real control over file size.

Yep I do have full quality first pass on...should i uninstall and reinstall to see if that fixes the problem?

I have tried the options/solutions reccommended in the over/undersized thread, just so you know here is what I have done:

At last... some remedies against oversizing

If you get an oversized file, there are two solutions in order to get perfect file size:

1. Overflow treatment values tweaking
These settings are used during the second pass and tell the bitrate control which strength it can use to adjust the bitrate. Higher values allow him to be more efficient and to balance theses Q1 frames.
So... recommended values are (in Two-pass / 2nd pass / more):
- overflow control strength: try 10 or 20
- Max overflow improvement: try 10 or 20
- Max overflow degradation: try 10 or 20

You'll get a correct final file size.


2. Quantizer capping
The second solution is to prevent XviD from using Q1 frames. To do that, just replace the minimum frame quantizer with "2" for each frame type [I/P/B] (in Advanced option / quantization dialog), and leave the maximum at 31.
You will have no more oversized. But... since you have read the explanations above, you must have understood that, doing this, you will get an undersized file, since there are no Q1 frames to fatten it. But, once more, it will be at maximum quality!
In this case, consider it as a good occasion to make your encoding better. Since you have "free space" to fill, use it by increasing the resolution, increasing the sound quality, using high quality custom matrices, etc.

Now I was wondering if the quality is good, the size is great, but i want to make sure the quality is good. Keep in mind this is a recording I did it's not a dl, I'll post a link to them when they are done uploading.

Well, if you have problems understanding the sticky it could be wise to use XviD with AutoGK.

Apart from that, please try again to understand the sticky or ask about specific points that you didn't quite get. Have you checked whether you have accidentally defined a zone with something different from weight=1? Have you uninstalled and installed XviD?

Also: Could you please use a more desriptive title for your threads in the future?

I have tried everything before i tried that in the sticky, so everything is fixed now, quality is great and i understood it fine after i read it a couple hundred times.

I'd hate to bump this but what i have done hasn't improved anything at all, its the same old crap...nothing works, not even uninstalling and reinstalling it...I don't know what to do anymore...
