Decrypted OK!..but 'Shrink rejects a .vob

Movie decrypts fine in File mode , tho I'm not used to seeing so many small .vob files. Lots of movie trailers for one , I think.
However, DVDShrink finds a problem with vts_03_1.vob file , and so does another app I tried.(forget which) Tried iso mode with Decrypter, and then didnt know what to do with an 8 gig .iso file. Oh, found how to attempt burn with 'Decrypter, but would not go as file is too large....cant shrink an .iso?
Tried IsoBuster....extracted all files option, and then just the single .vob above. This app had same problem with the file...some error. Even tho it decrypted with success !?
I dont know what ReJig is for, but it would crash if I tried to open the complete set of files on HD, which is one of its options.
VobBlanker?? Anything I can do to make 'Shrink accept this file.?
The disc had no visible damage, and plays fine.

Tried decrypting as .iso. Now 'Shrink opened it and was able to adjust and do backup. New problem now is InterVideo DVDCopy crashes when I try to just open the .vob files for burning. (region code is USA....1?)

Best guess for the cause of your problem is copyguard. It may be necessary to run through DVDFab, and then VobBlanker, then Shrink.

The very first response (from Cynthia_Old) asked this very specific question:

If you can give us this, the chances are excellent that you will get some meaningful and effective analysis and solutions. Without such information, we are just shooting in the dark.

In fact, there is an excellent chance that you might have gotten a correct diagnosis of this problem yesterday, and have ripped and burned and already viewed your finished backup by now.

It is entirely possible that this problem is due to Sony ARccOS, or to RipGuard, for example, but there is no way to tell without more information. Right now, I am leaning toward one of these (based on the little information we have been given to date). However, even that is a "shot in the dark," like the responses posted so far.

So, at the risk of quoting someone very wise, I would ask...

What movie is it and what region code?

Ok, I'm a little uneasy about the subject as a whole. Have never run into a problem with 'Shrink doing it's thing with .vob file sets.....with one still nagging exception>>>> that being files produced by stand-alone LiteOn DVD recorder. Another question , and another forum - lest I be subjected to complaints about topic deviations , etc. etc. (laugh with me, trying to inject a bit of levity)

Movie was "Flightplan". Never had this error message with 'Shrink following DVDDecrypter....that I can recall.

Finally succeeded ...but would still like to know a quicker fix , perhaps using VobBlanker , which I've not yet learned my way around.

Achieved results in this manner (not knowing why);

1) From .iso file (set to "None" as file splitting) produced by DVDDecryper , used DVDShrink to produce the seemingly identical .vob file set that "File" mode produced -- again using 'Decrypter.
2) I fairly certain that , for kicks , I then used DVDFabDecrypter and simply processes already decrypted files.
3) This time 'Shrink would accept the files , and allow tweaking to be done pertaining to compression of menus , movie , etc.--whereas same app would produce the error message following initial first-time decryption !?

Dont know why this worked, and thinking there could have been quicker solution if I understood VobBlanker for ex.

Yes, the Region 1 version of "Flight Plan" (It's "RipGuard" copy-protected) can be properly processed as follows:

1) Rip to hard drive using DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 in "File" mode (Select "ALL files", NOT just "movie files"

2) Load rip into VOBBlanker (set an output file location) ans simply press "Process"

3) Use DVD Shrink on the NEW (output location referred to in 2) above) fileset

4) Selected "Execute" (after waiting, clicking here and there--hey, who wants

1st Results : Long list of files, totalling only 323 mbs !!??

2nd Results : Long list of files, totalling just over 5gb , which would not
play on PC - closer, but what about the 7.8gb source file size ?
3rd Result : Long list of files, totalling just over 6gb, also would not play and
far short of the original file size - or is that normal ?
Also ; 'Shrink would have nothing to do with the resulting file sets. "Failed to
open VIDEO_TS.IFO - which was shown to be 0kb in size !

What gives?

An alternative way is open vob blanker, and for input, go to the DVD in question, select Video_TS.IFO, select your output location, and process. When all is done, open Shrink, select the file you ripped, and burn. Works for me.

You missed that the DVDD log file contained a clue for you:

The easiest way of all to fix this is to run FixVTS on it.

I've heard that "3rd times a charm" ? Well, it took the 4th attempt, but loading the original decrypted files into VOBBlanker finally produced a set of files that were useful to DVDShrink. I readjusted compressions , and had a successful burn. Cant explain why first 3 tries failed.
I dont understand why the disc wont play on newest , albeit inexpensive, DVD player. I've always gone to it to test newly burned disc, and never had one do this ; pop up message "Playback Only" when I try any function on the remote, but disc wont play. It does play in other DVD players.
I left all menus and titles in place , though highly compressed , and all but movie previews changed to "still pictures" with no audio , to improve main title settings.
I'll have a look at VTSFix, and hope I have time to understand it's use. I just dont have the time for all the detailed , complex operations.

Hi!

Postings at other sites indicate that the Region 1 "Toy Story 2 - Special Edition" DVD contains "RipGuard" copy protection.

If that's the case, try this simple procedure:

1) Rip/Decrypt the DVD using DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4. It should indicate that it's identified and will replace some bad sectors. Let it do so.

2) Load the rip into VOBBlanker (select an output file location) and simply press the "Process" radiobutton.

The files/DVD "package" created by VOBBlanker should now be acceptable to DVD Shrink...

After some fits and starts was finally able to backup the movie using the following procedure:

1. Backup to hard disk using DVD Decrypter.

2. Running VobBlanker against the files on the hard disk using the default settings produced the following message:

I still do not know whether the DVD is protected with RipGuard, ARccOS, or something else. Is there a way to determine which scheme is being used? If ARccOS is proprietary to Sony, then it is probably RipGuard.

It is "RipGuard" protected - That's why DVD Decrypter was able to process it to the extent that it did (Replacing bad sectors). It would not have been able to do that with the RECENT versions of "ARccOS" copy protection.

Actually, BY DEFAULT, VOBBlanker should have been set to "Process All".
I installed the latest version 2.1.1.0b1 and did not alter any settings. Haven't been able to find where to set 'process all' as the default, but will remember that in the future.

Hi all I have been having this same problem for a while now
and haven't had the time to figure it out-
But I downloaded decrypter a couple of weeks ago when i could not get shrink to work with flight plan ,also region 1
So I went on my trip with the original and of course it got nicked but i still have the 16 files of vobs and ifo's -Shrink doesn't reconize them (why i never burned it earlier)
So if i understand this ---if it is "RipGuard" there is a solution with Vobblanker but what if it is the ARccOS stuff -?
Is this usually only on movies that say Sony or are there a ton of little companies too ?
I am confused shrink worked out so well -for quite a while-
can you help me figure out a new game plan for backing up my stuff-

tried to point it twards my file it said must do a full scan

Are you able to play the hard drive version of "VTS_01_1.VOB" using a software player such as (freeware) VLC? If so, what's in that .VOB, the begiining of the movie or something else? If it's "something else", what is it?

I don't understand how you "ripped" only the 16 files listed - without also copying ANY .BUP files or any of the other .VOB files. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

Be that as it may, I'd suggest you use DVDFab Decrypter (Different than DVD Decrypter) to try, once again, to rip your original, purchased DVD. I suggest using this program because it purportedly automatically replaces unreadable sectors with "dummy" sectors and can, therefore, salvage a copy of a DVD that may otherwise be uncopyable...

It was a couple of weeks ago when i origanally did it (before my vacation ) I beleive i tried shrink and when that didn't work i used decrypter and somehow ended up with theese files ,but when i could not get a decent copy -I left them on the hard drive and took my then new dvd with me and scratched it-so maybe i will try to exchange it and try the whole thing over -I really want to learn the work flow of these new to me programs so I will be proficiant in backing up my stuff again -
it just bugs me when i can't work threw it -
I hope you'll check back in a couple days ,after i get the new disc-thanks for your time and looking at it -

Hate to bump an old thread, but I am backing up my Flightplan movie and I had the same issue, searched around and found this.

Steps 1-3 worked great. Except when it finished on DVD Shrink, it didnt ask me to insert a blank DVD like it always does. It just put the files in the folder. How do I get them on a DVD? (yes thats a noobish question, sorry)

Ok I think I solved my issue. I had just upgraded the DVD Shrink to the latest version and I started getting this trouble. So I un-installed and re-installed my older version and it now asks me to for a DVD when it finishes burning.

Unless I've overlooked something, other than the two things I've already mentioned, that thread only refers to using an OEM version of NERO with a different burner.

Is that what caused your problem, or is there yet something else - and, if so, what was it?
