If you know AviSynth there are many tools you could use.

I used to use SmartVid years ago: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/smartvid.html
There was another one but I can’t remember the name of it, and AFAIK there hasn’t been anything like it since, I’ve been thinking about writing my own program for this since the camera I just got captures to M-JPEG in MOV which isn't really VirtualDub friendly.
btw SmartVid doesn’t shutdown properly when you close it, you have to kill it manually with TaskManager.

Trmoov (http://www.downrecs.com/software.html) or mencoder (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/) or mov2avi (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/mov2avi.html)

Trmoov is great. I think it wouldn't do SVQ3 back when I used it, but it was probably because there was no ffdshow back then to support Sorensen in VFW. Only problem is it's 16-bit and can't read my files now that 8.3 paths are turned off. ;_;
FFMPEG usually works for me, not on mpeg streams but works for older codecs. Farges up mpeg streams a lot though, because of the out-of-order frames, which makes players crash a lot. ;_;

Are you talking about mpeg-1 streams because I use mencoder to convert those to avi without recompression and use the mpeg-in-avi setting of ffdshow to play them? Although I first transmux the mpeg-in-avi file to matroska to get it into VFW mode so that Gabest's matroska splitter can handle the mpeg-1 stream. It seems to be unable to handle mpeg-1 in matroska in native mode.

Trmoov (http://www.downrecs.com/software.html) or mencoder (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/) or mov2avi (http://www.divx-digest.com/software/mov2avi.html)
We can add also mp4box in this list...:)

To convert any MOV, MP4, M4V, 3GP irrelevant of the used Video codec
or Audio codec, you may try this freeware (http://www.eRightSoft.com/SUPER.html)
Video Codec may be H263, H264, MPEG-4, Sorensen 1or3, just name it.

Thanks all. I'll let you know what works. Normally I try to stay clear of Quicktime, but I hate to have to family movies (even if they're just clips) in yet another format.
Thanks again.

Stratocaster, the Super program did the trick. I did have to Quicktime installed for the audio to work. I'm sure it's just a audio codec that I don't have...I'm not to familiur with Quicktime. Thanks again.
