Encoding for the Playstation 2 (slimline version)

I recently bought the Playstation 2 console, but noticed, that my "homemovies" captured material on DVD does not play well at all on my PSX2, these dvd's play normal on my standalone dvd player(s) so, in which area of encoding, is the PSX2 a bit "picky" ?
btw. I'm using CCE-basic

please describe what you mean by 'not play well' .. i can say cce can create compliant mpeg2's. what are you using to author with?

Video game consoles are known to be very picky over what blank media you use.
Try using a different brand or type (+ or -).

If CCE was to blame, the discs would not play on your standalone.

I've also a PSTwo. All my CCE encodes I did with AutoQ2 played well. I used most Verbatim DVD-R burned not higher than 4x.

I've a OT-question for you: Is there a way to enable 4:3 for the DVD playback. I've only 16:9 grayed out. I'm using a converter to plug the PSTwo on my TFT-Screen I'm using also for my PC.

The video plays shockwise, sort of hick-ups every second,
i recently bought a PSX2 game called: Genji, and in the "movies" between the "levels" of the game, the same thing happens, i did notice, when i use MPEG (.mpa) for audio, (i author with DVDLab) the shockwise movement of the video picture is less then when i use AC3 sound.
Ripped dvd's i burn, or discs from a dvd video recorder, play perfect.

I guess you should leave it at 16:9,
(if it's anamorphic)
and set the format on the player/screen on 4:3 mode i guess you lose resolution, if above and under is greyed out, or you should, before you burn the project to disc, edit the .ifo files with IfoEdit,
this way you set the settings, on how your player will respond to the disc, there is no need to recode/alter the MPEG2 material, (no quality loss) or set the ratio-profile of your TFT-screen, the Sharp Aquis plasma screen has some nice prefference settings for channels/signal inputs, that have no ratio information in the video-signal, i once saw...

btw. you loose some parts left and right of the picture, because of the "pan & scan".

I've an 4:3 TFT-Display connected on my PSTwo. I can't change the Display settings of the PSTwo form 16:9 to 4:3. Thats my problem. I know how to encode or edit IFOs. I only wounder why I can't edit the displaysettings. They are grayed out. In the mainmenu there is a option to switch from 16:9 to 4:3 but not in the player part (grayed out).
