B-Frame Issue

Currently I've been trying to encode Wolf's Rain. I've come to notice now that it and other animes have some strange issue with b-frames. What happens is that since the B-Frames are looking ahead and behind for frames to predict where it should be it creates a flicker. B-Frames are great for compression yet they can cause problems like this...Is there a decent work around to fix the B-Frame issue?

This issue has been discussed quite a bit in the past. it happens randomly. Additionally sometimes you notice it sometimes you don't. For me I didn't notice it on the clip either in MPC, or WMP when using ffdshow to decode.

It's not a random thing, It's an overcompression issue. I've tried stepping up the bitrate and quant matricies. Nothing seems to fix it except disabling b-frames...But that makes ze file huge! Anywho...I've been encoding long enough to figure out a solution. Just wanted to know if anyone knew anything off the top of their head.

Looking over all the frames in vdub with xvid and ffdshow decoders I notice no quality problems except at frame 30, a key frame (you really need to raise your I-frame boost). Maybe your decoder is outdated and can't handle packed bitstream? Try the latest xvid or ffdshow and see if it still shows up for you.

I don't see any flicker either.

What's your decoder and at what settings? Postprocessing can cause flicker because its strength depends on quantizer, and b-frames have higher quantizer.

Random guess: Try to disable anti-aliasing in ya GFX options!
