capturing & burning right away ?

Hello experts:

I'm waiting patiently for standalone dvd recorders specifically Liteon's to mature and be able to record dual layers....

At the moment I have an el cheapo Kworld TV tuner which can also capture in mpeg2...so how do I go about setting up my pc to perform like a standalone? As in capturing...burning right away into a RW disk without too much of a fuss? I haven't come across a program that does "direct burning".

To make life simpler I could use a vcr....but I love the 32x fast forwarding in dvd...:D and I am NOT into collecting episodes which then require heavy duty post processing..

So, this proggy will start burning as soon as the capturing's over? Kinda worthwhile/inexpensive to try out if it does.

I think Intervideo WinDVD Recorder can burn straight to DVD live. Never tried it though.

EDIT: Just looked on the site and it doesn't seem this is the case. Whoops :P

Sometime ago I tested a trial version of WinDVD Recorder (forgot the version) but it basicly did what you wanted - direct encoding to MPEG and burning to DVD while watching. Just check the site and the available test versions:

Hey, I use windvd recorder 5. It will do what you want, but don't expect great quality. Why do you require recording to dual layer. I recently got a Lite-on 1101 stand-alone and the quality is quite good at 4hr mode on single layer dvd-rw.

Thanks fellas, I am not expecting great quality, just like the 32x fast forward capablity :D

4 hour mode on a dvd-5 if I am not mistaken, is not much of quality IF I want to save/archive/collect the recordings when I do purchase the Liteon(cheap). By then, I would be chopping the commercials and redo with great proggies from the gurus at IFO/VOB editor forum.
