Strange DV codec problem

What I am attempting is capturing DV from a camcorder and then using NeroVision to make a movie to burn to DVD.

Movie was captured as type 1 from a Sony Handycam.
I used the Canopus DV converter to convert to type 2, both the MS DV and the Premiere compatible DV.
I then used the Canopus and Panasonic codecs to create 2 new avis with VirtualDub.

None of these will play in NeroVision, although it will extract the first frame for the preview.

The Canopus and Premiere compatible avis will play in everything (Media Player, Showtime, WinAmp, VirtualDub). The Panasonic and MS ones won't play at all (well, only in VirtualDub)

Enter GSpot for some codec snooping. The ones that play do *not* have an installed codec, the ones that do not play *do* have an installed codec ie completely the wrong way around.

I'm at a loss. Anyone know how I can edit my movies in NeroVision? I'd like to avoid a convoluted process (eg. DV1 -> DV2 -> Premiere -> Mpeg4 -> NeroVision -> DVD) if at all possible.

It should be noted that sound always works, just the video is black.

well, I worked out some similar problems with the Nero vision express.The NVE doesn't accept all kind of source movies, expecially if the image dimensions don't match, or will create DVDs with restrictions like no forward / backward spooling capability.

I am using Ulead Videostudio 8 that can natively export movies to DVD iso files, import from the DV camcorder with autoseparation of movie szenes, burn DVDs directly, create a DVD directory structure and 100 other features. Should be below 20$ or 15 Euros and it's very fast.

I think you dont want to do much more than some transitions between scenes, create some titles, mix some background audio, rearrange scenes.... this is 1% of premiere can do , 10% of what Ulead can, and is 100% ok for 99% of all viewers of your movies.
