How to convert audio in an avi movie?

I want to rip out the audio from an avi I have and convert it, and then reattach it.

The problem is that the audio on my avi is not compatible with my player, and I want to convert it manually.

How would I do about seperating the audio and video. THen coverting the audio?

Supposing you have the video file according to forum rules, just use VirtualDub (http://www.virtualdub.org) to re-encode the audio track.

To extract the audio, open the AVI in VDubMod, and go Streams->Stream List->Demux. To convert, depending on what it is I guess, use BeSweet or HeadAC3he.
