I'm neither sure if this is the correct sub-forum nor if the question has been dealt with before - however I was unable to find a solution by searching either this forum or by using google.
I've installed the XVid Direct Show Filter and the DivX Codec. If I'm using a video player that is using the DirectShowFilters by Windows, all XVid files are rendered using the DivX Codec. Somehow during the installtion the DivX codec must have decided that it's worth to decode nearly everything. However the playback is not smooth.
Of course I can use a media-player with "built-in" codecs like VLC but I would rather prefer to make Windows use the XVid filter for xvid files and the DviX Filter for DivX files. I'm unable to find an option/tweak. I mean this must be possible somehow and I'm quit sure I'm not the first one who deals with this question - yet solutions on the web seem to be non-existant?
Thank you very much for ur help....
