How to choose right resolution whith x264 like a doing compresivity test with XviD or AutoGK.

I believe that one of the X264 devs said that trying to do a compressibilty test with X264 isn't as practical as it might be with xvid since X264 is more complicated. The quality of a clip encoded by X264 can really be affected by the options you choose. Xvid is that way to a certain extent, but not to X264's level. It's not surprising to see a very noticible difference between 2 encodes of the same bitrate, because one clip used different options than the other.

IMHO the best way to determine how to encode with X264 is to practice. The more you encode with it and play with the options the better you'll be able to judge what may work with your clips.

In GK, there's a column Bits/pixel
my experience is, 0.1 will give you very good results, you can ignore the warning (yellow)

0.1 isn't very good to me!

I prefer to have between 0.25 and 0.2 Bits/(Pixels*Frames) for x264, and near 0.3 for XviD, with(for both) a 75% W-Zoom at most, and less than (-/+) 1 % of Aspect Ratio Error.

If BPF isn't good, raise the bitrate.. ;-)
