I've been reading past posts regardikng the usage of different encoders with DVD-RB Pro.
I've seen regular posts that CCE seems best with high bitrate but HC may be better with low bitrate.
Could someone clarify this please.
Is it meant to be the source bitrate is high or low? What do you class as a high or low bitrate?
Thanks
Matthew

It depends on the source. To achieve similar quality, a 4:3 interlaced source with lots of bright colours and action is going to require more bitrate than a clean, dark, low-action 2.35:1 letterboxed source.
IMO you are much better off thinking in terms of the q values in CCE SP's advanced window.

thanks matthew but I was more interested if it was possible to put numbers to high bitrate and low bitrates. eg high bitrate 5000 - 9800? low bitrate - ???
cheers

Hi-
You want numbers? OK, below 3000 is low bitrate and above 5000 is high bitrate.
But those are arbitrary numbers, and relative to the source . One movie may look good with 3000, but for a different one 5000 might not be enough. Other factors, such as the ones Matthew mentioned, or the filters used, if any, or the matrix used, also come into play. All-in-all, Matthew's answer makes much more sense. You were given a very good answer initially, and you would do well to ponder it. It's all about the Q, not bitrate.
