View Full Version : HELP: AutoGK produces out-of-sync avis... woes :S

I have 2 major problems with AutoGK (latest stable version):

1. Processing small mpeg2 files is fine. However I recorded a 2GB mpeg2 movie from my TV card Hauppauge DEC2000-T. Then I tried using AutoGK on it to generate a 700MB divx file. The process was fine, however I found that past half-way through the avi film the sound went totally out-of-sync and stayed out-of-sync. The sound is played first 3 seconds before the actual events.

Can someone double-check that this has nothing to do with AutoGK processing a 2GB file and AutoGK should be able to handle a 2GB mpeg2 DVD file fine?

The film was off Channel 4. Yes, that means it includes annoying adverts throughout the whole film. However I used the DigitalTV (TV card Hauppauge DEC2000-T software) pause feature to pause between the breaks/adverts. My hypothesis is that the immediate/sudden cuts/pauses throughout the 2GB movie has caused the movie frames to slow down while the sound stays the same.

2. If I, however, press stop (by accident) when I meant to pause recording, then I'll get my video recording in segmented files. Luckily AutoGK says it will take/process multiple files and output a single avi divx file (as long as we name them *_1.mpg, *_2.mpg, etc.) I have 2 300MB mpg2 files and I put this through AutoGK to output 1 avi divx file. The avi is perfectly fine until it gets to the joining point. It totally goes out of sync from then on. Is this AutoGK or me? Is there anything I can do to perfectly join the mpg2 files together and see if AutoGK will do better?

Or should I go back to the old Gordian Knot way?

Help!

Sorry, forgot to say. I was using default settings and followed the AutoGK tutorial word by word. Maybe I need to use advanced settings? Also ALL the mpeg2 files are fine. Even the ones which I paused many times through the film/file.

And installing K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (latest) doesn't do much better. Still the 3 seconds out-of-sync sounds (sounds played 3 seconds earlier).

"luckily I didn't delete my mpeg2 files immediately after the jobs were finished" - thew!

All this time I been thinking/wondering why AutoGK, Dr. DivX wouldn't work. Then I found this by google:

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=2284

Looks like the dec2000-recording is tight/strict and makes invalid mpeg2 files? I have to gop-fix/resize my dec2000-recordings. Why? What is gop and why I have to de-gop my recordings before I can divx encode?

Wish Dr. Divx or AutoGK did this automatically. Anyway, was wondering which best programs can degop good? I heard ProjectX can, however when I tried using ProjectX I didn't know what to do, so hard. Any advice or tips?

I've had a similar problem before under probably different circumstances, and I was curious to see why that happens.
