RJ-250 Firmware in DVP642 ?

I have a Philips 642/37 with firmware 1223. I also have a RJ-250 portable player with the same chip, the ESS Vibrato II. The firmware looks to be identical to both units as the menu screens and screensaver are exactly the same. The 250 does not have the distorted picture that I get occasionally on my 642 when playing certain xvids. I’m familiar with the system button work-around for the 642 but even though the xvids are watch-able on the 642, they aren’t crystal clear like on the 250. The 250 is also Nero mp4 certified in addition to DivX certified and xvids can be FF at 16x instead of 8x.

What I’m wondering, is there any way to flash the 642 with the 250 firmware? If it didn’t work, would there be any way to restore the 642?

Is that the stock firmware (1223) or did you upgrade?:)

Yes, 1223 is what was on the unit when I bought it a few months back. The latest RJ-250 firmware can be downloaded from the RJ website: http://www.rjtech.net/.

Wish there were as many dedicated firmware hackers for the 642 group like there are for the 5803 group.
