I hate to assume anything, but since most of the earlier versions of HC encoders worked (not the GUI versions of course) with DVD Rebuilder Pro., is my assumption that HCenc_17 should have no problems with RB correct?

- quzantizatoin can be changed only to max x2 (Ix2 for P, Ix2 for B). I want more ;) When I have fun with ffdshow or mencoder I use to set Q as I2, P3, B5 or even 6 with good results. Allow at least 3 or 4 (4 will be beter dividable)

CQ weights are a very nice idea. does it work the same way as xvid style p and b frame multiplier/offset? looking at some bitrate scans it seems if quant 1 is set, all frames get quant 1 where they can (i'm not complaining - IMHO if there's enough bandwidth for q1, then it is the way to go). i'm curious how the weights work.

I think this is prevented by licensing issues (toolame is open source, HC is not). EDIT: Or is it that you can use an external library even if your program is not open source?

As I already notified hank315 and tsp, FFT3DGPU won't work with HC v0.17 but does work with v0.16. (EDIT: will be fixed in the next FFT3DGPU release)

First of all :thanks: for the new version!

Unfortunately I have problems opening my source-avs (it's an MJPEG-capture recorded AND decoded with PicVideo MJPEG and this time NOT with the ffdshow-MJPEG-codec).
After trying to open the file, the info box says 'AVS file opened' and then refuses to go on with 'Avisynth.dll loaded' (if I remember the words right). The program just hangs and nothing happens. It's only possible to close it with the X-Button in the upper right.
With HC 0.16 I don't have this problem, here the file is loaded correctly.
BUT: When I unsuccessfully tried to open the file in HC 0.17 and closed the GUI, I also fail to open the *.avs in HC 0.16!
Has anyone similar problems or a solution..?

LGPL is a library license.. it means you can use a library in closed sourced applications but any modifications you make to the library have to be made available in source code. GPL means any inclusion makes your software GPL as well. That's why M$ and some others call the GPL viral.. in an extreme case, you include one line of GPL code in a million line software and you have to release the whole million lines under the GPL.

I think that this must be problem with sources loaded by Avisynth. Duno if it's Avisynth fault or HCenc's.
When I open movie in VirtuaDub, and then make frameserver of it, and put it as avisource in AVS script, everything goes fine.
Of course this still concerns Wine+BSD. I know, I'm masochistic ;)

What setting (script) do you use with SetMTMode in HC? I have a P4 2.8C HT processor.

SetMTMode(2) I tried this in my script and saw no increase in cpu usage or speed at all.

Does it work in 017?

That's exactly what I did, and I saw no increase in cpu usage in the task manager, nor did I notice any increase in the encoding speed.

In fact according to the logs from HC 017, using SetMTMode was slower by 4 minutes using the same source.

Hank, please disregard my posting above for the moment, I think the main problem I was having was a borked Windows installation. After seeing more and more programs f***ing up I decided to completely reinstall W2k, and now... it seems that HC017 works without crashing... :rolleyes:

To me it seems that some problem with GUI and Win2K exists.
I also get the problem of freezing GUI when loading Avisinth, but it is sporadic, sometimes I change file, then it works, then I take again the original file and it work with no problem.
Once that it seemed to be no way to make it work (it was an MJPEG video capture) I tried simply editing manually the avs file name into the HC.ini and then I launched the GUI, and it worked ????
Avisinth 2.56 and Win2K.
As I told at the end there seems to be workaround, but it is annoying and I do not know if there is something hidden behind.
No problem with the encoder itself, always working through the HC.ini file.

It won't be in the next release (HC018 will be out soon).
It needs an update of the data structure, will see if it can be done in HC019.
One thing is for sure, you need 1 GB memory to run it with resolution 1920x1152...

one of the things that i have change and will be in the next QuEnc is that when someone sets the max bitrate higher than 9800(max dvd) then buffer size is also increased. that could possibly help with this sort of case.

hahaha no problem. been there and done that myself. :)

however its still an interesting find and 1 which hank315 may want to make the change i mentioned above to combat. of course that wont fix human error but would be good for cases where people are really encoding to higher than dvd bitrates.
