I am converting a DVD9 into a DVD5 and here's the basic layout of the DVD under DVD Shrink:

- Main Movie
Audio
1. AC3 5.1-ch English
2. AC3 5.1-ch Thai
3. AC3 2-ch English

Subpicture
1. English
2. Thai
3. Chinese
4. Unspecified
5. Korean
6. Thai
7. Chinese
8. Korean

Under Extras, everything is either 0.01 MB or 0 MB as I've blanked all the extra stuff with VobBlanker already. I'm planning to remove the Thai audio file and keep the director's commentary while keeping all the subtitles. Here are the steps I have taken:

1.) Ripped the DVD onto the hard drive with DVD Decrypter. (Everything's fine when checked with PowerDVD)
2.) Stripped the language selection (followed 2COOL's guide (http://home.tiscali.be/debie.roland/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/remove_language_aspect_ratio_menus/remove_language_and_aspect_ratio_menus_intro.htm)) so that it automatically chooses the first selection, which is English. (Still fine)
3.) Blanked unwanted clips with VobBlanker. (Still fine)
4.) Disabled a few menus here and there since I'll be removing all the extras from the DVD. (Still fine)
5.) Unchecked all the extras' audio and subtitles with DVD Shrink (wasn't much left after I blanked all the extras anyway).
6.) Unchecked the Thai audio under Main Movie.
7.) Last step was to create new DVD files on the hard drive.

The problem is up to the point where I used DVD Shrink, the movie would play just like the original DVD would, with English subtitle on as default. However, after the last step, the default subtitle became Thai. The other subtitles were still there, though, and in the right order too. I tried to force the default subtitle to be English (according to this guide (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/subtitles/subtitles_on_default_pgcedit.htm)) and it would work but the problem was if I were to choose a subtitle via the main menu, the default subtitle would still appear instead of the selected subtitle. Any ideas?

You've been busy!

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing, I think you're trying to rip the movie to DVD5 with both English soundtracks and all the subtitles.

Perhaps a different approach might work.

Using DVD Decrypter, rip the entire DVD to disk, with no audio or angle processing. I think you might already have done this.

Using DVD Shrink in Reauthor mode, navigate to the ripped folder and select Title1. When loaded, uncheck the Tai soundtrack then right-click on Title1 in the LEFT pane and use Default Streams to select the default audio and subtitles you want. Save to another folder.

You now have a movie-only backup on your drive with untouched subtitles and two soundtracks. Try playing it to check the strange subtitle behaviour, either in a software player or after burning to a DVD-RW.

I hope this works for you. We've done very little mucking about so there's a good chance it should be ok. The problem is that you have no menu, so soundtracks and subtitles will need to be selected from your remote control.

If you need a menu, it's possible to use PGCEdit to make one, I think, but I've never done this. Search on Blutach's posts or check the readme's for PGCEdit.

5.) Unchecked all the extras' audio and subtitles with DVD Shrink (wasn't much left after I blanked all the extras anyway). This is probably where you've created your "situation". Try leaving ALL subtitles (They are tiny) checked (Make sure that all of the subpicture/subtitle setting under "Preferences" and "Preferences">>"Stream selections" are set as to NOT eliminate any subpictures/subtitle streams...
