First off, hi :).
Here is the deal... I've been using Gordian Knot for quite a long time now and I didn't experienced anything like this so far.
While encoding in two pass it appears that Gordian Knot does not reacts to second pass correction in bitrate (that is mainly why we are using two pass anyway) so file gets oversized or undersized. So I basically must guess right bitrate (so far I'm good at it :)). I have also checked if GK finds good path to stats file, and it appears so.
It is probably something easy but I am left out of options.
- Bug is occuring every time
To simplify; if I enter 900kbps as "default" xvid bitrate, GK will encode second pass on 900kbps... so my movie will be encoded on 900 kbps (I use GSpot 2.21 to check movie bitrate out).

second pass default
First pass screen is similar, except that I obviously checked "Two pass - 1st pass".
My specs:
XviD-1.1.0-30122005 _Final Release_
Gordian Knot 0.35.0
AMD Athlon 3200+
1GB RAM
I hope that you guys will help me about this one... I will post pictures of more GK/xvid settings if it is required.

This is about giordan knot and not really about xvid, so I'm moving this to the right forum. Also remember to use the search and read the sticky threads (over- and undersize explanation in the xvid forum for example).
Cheers

I can't post logfile because I have deleted it. But I'm going to encode it again only for this purpose.
Now here is the funny part, I have downloaded AutoGK 2.26 and encoded that same movie with it. I get 699MB file size (1CD) exact like I set it to be (almost; I set it to 700MB).
So it is not Xvid issue for sure (I'm using the same version all the time), it is GK issue... (or at least I have created that issue within GK :D).
Now while Auto GK is great utility, I still miss the features of GK... I'm going to uninstall it, delete registry keys than reinstall it. And post logfile here if it doesn't work out properly.

It seems like something get wrong in the registry. I did reinstalled (first cleaned registry), and the movie was encoded with size 705MB which is OK.
Really weird error; it seems to have pointed GK on the first pass bitrate all the time and it didn't take info from first pass settings.
Anyway I will try to encode more but for now everything seems to be in order.
Thanks for help anyway mate. :)

which keys did you remove?
I have the same problem... I can't encode using a given bitrate :/ XviD choose it's own bitrate

I suspect he went into the Options Tab and hit "Delete Registry Keys".

I'm sorry, but I don't see this option in GK 0.35.0 or in (koepi) XviD-1.2.-127-07012006 _Alpha Build_ (Based on CVS from 07.01.2006 20:00h MET)

I'm sorry, but I don't see this option in GK 0.35.0
It's there. Open GKnot 0.35.0 and go to the Options Tab. In the upper left corner you'll see "Delete Registry Keys".

I looked for a check box.
Thanks a lot, I will make tests

hi guys,
i'm facing a similar problem which occured suddenly without any (intetional) changes made by me. Bitrate is chosen accordingly to xvid's settings. (using GK 0.35, xvid 1.1 dec/05) so, setting target file size manually works fine, but of course in this way batch encoding using GK won't work.
i found other threads perhaps relating to this one:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=90548
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=106129
but, unfortunately, in my case it didn't help to remove gk's registry-entries, an then to un - and reinstall both GK and XviD.
Do you have suggestions where or what to look for next?

hi,
twiddled around a bit and found a solution for me:
Pre-Encode Audiotracks (for determined size)
In the Encoding Options Dialog explicitly open (and perhaps set) XviD fist+second pass settings, thereby setting second pass to "target file size" instead of target bitrate. GK will deliver for correct size value.
UNcheck "recalculate bitrate..."
In this way, i managed to have the encoding jobs enqued PLUS coming out with right-sized avis.
hope this will work for you, too.
