The new Divx codec has been causing a lot of problem for me. Whenever I try to encode a video to .avi using the divx 6.1 codec, the TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress software says "Invalid Sample format". When I relaunch the software, it displays the splashscreen & then gives the following error:

MICROSOFT VISUAL C++ RUNTIME LIBRARY ERROR

C:/program files/Pegasys Inc/TMPGEnc 3.0 Express/TMPGEnc3XP.exe

"This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I also get the same error on launching Canopus Procoder 2 & Vdubmod. I have also tried the latest Visual basic runtime pack from Microsoft but still I get that error. However, I dont receive any such problem with Divx 6.0 codec. Is there any way to solve this problem ?

I've used that app on a box with DivX 6.1.1 installed with no problems.

Have you got the latest version of TEXP3, and have you installed DivX 6.1.1? DivX 6.1.1 is part of the main bundle downloads from DivX.com as of 2 days ago. There should certainly be no problem using DivX with VirtualDubMod.

I have tried the latest Divx 6.1.1 update but still no help.

I have figured out what the cause of the runtime problem is. Its the feature in Windows XP SP2 called DEP(data Execution Prevention). Moreover detailed exploring in Divx site provided me the info that the Divx codecs released are not fully compatible with the DEP feature. Divx Labs also revealed that they are yet to release DEP compatible Divx bundle.

DivX has been DEP compatible since 5.2.1. DivX Labs doesn't say anything to the contrary (maybe you hit Google cache for a really old labs article?).

I'll do a little testing this morning with DivX and TEXP3 and see what I find.
