I'm hoping the price will be quite a bit lower than the suggested retail price of $1800.00.... But it's a fantastic technical achievement...

For me, the ability to store up-to one hour of high definition video (720P60 or 1080i60) or four hours of standard definition video on a 4GB memory card is far more appealing than capturing to DV tape :D

I wonder if the first releases of these camcorders will be able to capture from analogue sources too!

I received my HD1 from www.dvnation.com/hd1.html on Friday. I really like it. I set it on a tripod and recorded a tennis match by placing the cam off to the side of the net, pointing toward one side of the court. I was thrilled with the result. I played it back on my 123" screen using a Toshiba projector. I wasn't even in the highest quality HD mode and it looked great. Subtle details jump out at you that you just don't see with any SD camcorder out there. Like the where the paint scheme of the racquets change around the head of the racquet. Even recording the fast motion of the tennis ball was surprisingly good. I also used it in an indoor warehouse setting with flourescent lighting and it looked great! Stereo sound is also good. I'm using a 2GB SD card but have ordered a couple of 4GB cards to see if they will work too. I didn't not have to load any software on my computer for playback. It just works. You copy the files off the card. The OLED screen is truely gorgeous. Service from dvnation.com was instant. Highly recommended! I wonder if you could do a test to satisfy my curiosity with regard to capturing at 30 progressive frames per second.

Could you mount the camcorder on a tripod, lock it down and capture a large truck or bus (with writing/logo's on the side) coming to-wards and passing you out of frame.

I'm interested to see whether the writing/logo's are displayed without motion blur....

I just played with it (Sanyo VPC-HD1) on the CeBit. Has a nice feel - though I cannot say how good it looks because they only had the camera there and it wasnt connected to a bigger monitor. Only the internal lcd viewfinder.
But its certainly very compact!
