I'm using Divx Pro 6.1.1 and having a hard time with Gordian Knot 0.35.0. I set the bitrates for first pass and Nth pass, and the video seems to get encoded at the default 780Kb/s. Also, when I do a compressibility test it comes up saying something like 9999997%. And, when I set the framerate to 23.976, the finished AVI still comes out as 29.970.

What is everyone using for DVD to Divx besides GKnot?

I typically use DGIndex + DGDecode.dll + AviSynth + VirtualDub.

If you use VirtualDubMod, it can even write most of your AVS script for you, especially the normally pain to write cropping values.

With NTSC DVD's that have film as a source, I use "force film" when processing in DGIndex. Then I open the .d2v file with VirtualDubMod using the MPEG2Source AviSynth template. I use the null transform > cropping filter in VDubMod to crop off the black bars (this allows for easy GUI cropping to get the correct values), then I use Tools > Script Editor to Edit > Insert Crop. I manually type in the resize line (usually LanczosResize) and then save and refresh the script. Then I set VDubMod to "fast recompress" (this disables the cropping filter that you added in VDubMod that you no longer need, as well as speeds things up and omits a redundant color space conversion).

How about DrDivX ?

Shouldn't this thread be located in the new MPEG-4 Encoder GUI's (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=78) section of the forum?

That said... shouldn't the Gordian Knot threads be placed in the new section too?

Cheers

DrDivx doesn't support multipass as far as I can tell. I have been getting great results with FairUse Wizard Pro. I'll be sticking with it until an updated GK is released.

Dr. DivX does multipass by default

but you can set it to only do 1 pass if you want

DgIndex - Avisynth - VDubMod.
But I like SimpleDivX final quality with 2 pass too.

Maybe he's talking about more than 2 pass ? Is there really an advantage to that ?
