Hi. I use Gordian Knot to encode video with XVid codec (I don't know where to check the version). I'm using the 2 pass default settings.
Sometimes I get things like this (it happens with different DVDs):

Usually re-encoding the clip fixes the problem. Why is it happening?
Thank you.

That is a defect bitstream. This can happen with defective memory for example. You may run a memcheck for a few hours to see if you ram is ok. Or maybe your harddrive is getting broken.
Do you overclock your computer? This might happen if the chipset is running too fast and IDE/ATA/SATA timings get out of specs.
Cheers

Thanks a lot, Koepi.
A recently bought a new memory module, and I get sudden reboots sometimes. I'll run the memory test and tell you about the results.
If this is the problem, I'm glad you told me, since my computer is still in its warranty period.

I left memtest86 running all night, it did 9 passes and didn't find any errors. What can I do now?
I don't overclock my computer.

I left memtest86 running all night, it did 9 passes and didn't find any errors. What can I do now?I once also had a memory module that passed all tests. Yet, as soon as it was in my computer, XviD was giving crappy output or sometimes simply crashed. I changed that module and XviD never gave me any more trouble.
In any case, sudden reboot isn't a sign of a stable computer
