Minimum requirements for playing AVC Video ?

hi people,
I read tones of threads about people having problems with AVC playback and I hope if someone can tell us the minimum requirements for an AVC video playback in both sides Hardware and software (what is the minimum CPU needed for playback and what is the best decoder etc ....).

I have smooth playback on Intel Pentium 3 @ 750mhz with coreAVC decoder but with ffdshow is catastrofe with and without deblocking same thing.

It's all depends of resolution of your video - maybe 640x320 plays smooth on PIII 600 with CoreAVC, but anamorf encoded 720x576 needs more power to decode, and 1280p HD video needs ~2000Mhz to decode, 1920p HD needs more than 2800Mhz CPU.

As the others mentioned it depends on resolution and software used, so I post a few examples from my experiance with the Apple HD trailers. I have an Athlon XP with 2GHz.

With CoreAVC i can play the 1080p trailers smoothly. With ffdshow I can play the 720p trailers. With Quicktime I can barely play the 480p trailers.

the minimum requirements depend on a lot of things:
- which resolution
- which h.264 features used
- which decoder used
- which player used

1080 is tooo high :p I would never have a video with this resolution :p.
hey bond, as you wrote in your test Mplayer was the fastest in decoding and the free, are you talking about Mediaplayer ?? srry if mistaken :p
are the graphic cards influanced here cuz I heared that new Ati's GCs are supporting AVC and blablabla ?
what do you suggest for smooth playback ? I have : P4 1.7GHz, 512RAM, GF4 MX440.

You still don't said the resolution that you want to playback, and with what features used. The fastest thing out there is the alpha versions of CoreAVC. It shoud be ~65% faster than FFDShow.

Mplayer is not Windows Media Player.

the resolution is mainly under 900 !
I don't understand what you mean by features ? what features!!??
if it's H.264 encoding features, I don't encode videos only get em from my friend. what I am sure of that he uses X.264 .
for player I use media player classic and Zoomplayer.
and could you please tell me what is mplayer then and if possible where can I get it .

"Minimum processor to play AVC" is completely nonsensical. Please phrase your question in a sensible manner, such as "Minimum processor to play DVD-res AVC on high profile."

Google and forum search are your friends, really. You're also treading very close to rule 6 territory.

ok I tried DShow coreAVC and works great with a video of 738x400 but that same video worked slooooooooow with FFdshow thanx everyone for advice {^_^}.
