Well, im not sure what the cause of this is, but i will post in this section since i am using xvid to encode. I am using GK to create the .avs file, and then using VDM to actually set up the compression ( 2 pass encode ), video size, ect ect. I am using Koepi's xvid codec v1.1 . I have encoded many many movies before, however lately whenever i try to encode, my computer just restarts. It doesn't happen immediatly, but it will happen sometime during the encode. i have searched forums and cannot seem to find an answer, please point me in the right direction if i have missed anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

overclocked? did you hit Load Defaults? try running a simple avs script with no filtering.

nope, not overclocked and the defaults are loaded. ran a test script with only cropping and resizing, and everything went fine...until after it was done and i x'ed out of vdub. this is driving me absolutly crazy.

Try uninstalling. then reinstalling. and hit load defaults. lately I think this has been the most common solution for 1.1 problems.

bah, i did a reformat earlier (for other reasons besides this) and reinstalled and no luck...therefore the defaults were loaded. I tried using MeGUI (saw in your sig) and all seemed well, but then it crashed about 50% through the first pass, and about 1% into the second pass mencoder had an error.(my computer did not restart this time, the program just crashed). Not sure if this narrows the problem down at all, i could paste the log if you think that would help..

That sounds like hardware trouble. Old memory, overclocked computer, too weak cooling solution,...
XviD stresses CPU and memory more than the usual burn-in-testig-tools.
Make sure your equipment is alright by running those burn-in-tests and memcheck86 for some hours please.
Cheers
