Hello to everyone,

I am pretty new to everything related with avisynth and video editing, so please be patient and pardon me. I came across a problem that, first of all, I don't know how to call it. Look at the pictures belowe, around abject and peoples there is something like a second image.

this is the source as it comes, no deinterlacing or denoising.

What are those artifacts? how to remove them?

take your pick of the artefacts :)

the most obvious is the horrid ringing (or haloing if you like). probably caused by some kind of resize + sharpen.

then there's the strange aliasing on diagonals (caused by dumb bob + resize).

looking at it there's probably also blended fields in there because the resizing says to me this is PAL video converted from an NTSC source by a person/software that didn't know what he/she/it was doing.

as far as removing this, try dehalo_alpha (search is your friend), and if you see blended fields anywhere, give restore24 a shot too.

this a captured video from my tuner card, using virtualdub. The video has been captured at 720*576, with the help of MJPEG codec set to 19. I haven't done any conversion. I live in PAL land so if there was any NTSC to pal conversion dont blame me....

I just tried the De halo filter but it doesnt seem to do anything (at least I dont see them)...

THe movie sholud be interlaced but I dont see any of interlaced artificact I was used to with DVD materials; so I do I know there are blended fields?

Thanks for your replay :)

For haloing/ringing, I agree with Mug Funky: use DeHalo_Alpha (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=102794&page=3).

For chromashift, use FixChromaBleeding (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=77074). Use Didée's suggestion on that page to speed it up.

The rest is out of my league, so follow Mug Funky's advice.

hehe. don't worry, i can tell you haven't done the conversion there - the station watermark on those pics doesn't show the same diagonlal stairstepping type problems. (though there's some rainbow on it, but you can expect such things from analog caps).

dehalo might need a larger radius to kill the kind of haloing i'm seeing here. but there'll still be the weird jagginess left over (limitedsharpen can either hurt or help here).

you might have to accept that you're not going to get a perfect video with a source like this... you can still get something watchable though.
