is it possible to burn cd audio tracks onto a dvd in redbook audio format and then have a dvd player be able to play it like a super long audio cd? if so is there a certain software to use for this? how many minutes would a single layer dvd hold for audio?

i've never heard of it, but it could be possible.. much more a pain in the ass then say, burning an mp3 disc. is there a specific reason you would rather not do that instead?

well so i can have full audio quality and a lot of songs still and play it on my standalone dvd player and in my car's player which reads dvds. that way i won't have to change cds as much. i am just going to try it on a dvd-rw and see what happens.

It's a good idea, fairuza!
Try to burn a RW to test. But take in mind that if it works on a specific player, it may fail on another one.
Please report if it works for you...
BTW, I agree with your choice. I hate MP3 audio. Verry crappy.

Hi!
I've tried every way I can think of doing this with NERO - with no success. If you figure out a way to do this successfully, please post back here...

well it's not possible (why do you think that nobody would've done it already? :D). see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Book_(audio_CD_standard) & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_DVD

Hi!
Although I strongly suspect that you may be correct that "well it's not possible", I didn't see anything in the two pages you've provided links to that specifically indicate that "it can't be done" or "why it can't be done".
As to your question, "why do you think that nobody would've done it already?" - Somebody's got to be the first to do anything ;>}

Awhile back I was looking for a similar program that would allow me to put all my music on dvds instead of cds. I found this program called Audio DVD Creator (http://www.audio-dvd-creator.com/index.htm) that did just that, but its not in Redbook audio format. However if you just want to play a long audio session on your dvd player this will do it.
A cheap way to do the same thing would be to convert your audio to either AC3 or PCM and mux it with blank video and insert it into an authoring program of your choice.

Good idea, Steelo - one could also combine it with a movie, then use DVD Shrink in reauthor mode and replace the entire movie with a still image. Individual song tracks could be chapters instead. Sounds like something that could be made into a separate software - this has begun to look like something I'd like to try.

It is easy to make a simple audio DVD with MuxMan.
Load a single black BMP as video and your audio tracks one after another as audio.
They can be WAV or AC3 but have to be 48kHz of course.
If you need an artist/song display for every track and if you want to use the next/previous buttons,
then you have to input a picture for every track and to modify the mxp file per hand,
and that is not so easy, but can be done.
