View Full Version : Issue with encoding VOBs

I recently purchased a box set of DVDs of a TV show that I wish to encode to DivX. However, when I rip them using DVD Decrypter, the episodes span the VOBs. What I mean is, that the Pilot takes up VOB1, 2, 3, and roughly 12 minutes worth of 4. Ep2 takes up in VOB4, and continues through VOB5 and several minutes into 6.

I was able to encode the pilot without much trouble, by selecting VOBs 1 through 4 and setting the Credits Start at the end of the pilot itself, cutting out the 12 minutes of episode 2. So the pilot is good. I just need to encode the other episodes. I though it was just this way on DVD1 because the pilot was longer than the other episodes, but every disk I've ripped so far is the same way.

I'm using GordianKnot .35, however I don't have a preference whether DivX 6.1 or Xvid is used as the codec. Is there a way to set a beginning flag, the reverse of the Start Credt flag that will allow me to encode each ep individually? Otherwise, any advice on how to do this would be helpful.

If you use DVDD in IFO mode, you may find that each episode has its own Program Chain (PGC). Rip each episode separately into its own folder.

I have DVD Decrypter in IFO Mode. In the right panes, under the Input tab, there are two headings, VTS_01 and VTS_02. Under 1, there are PGC1, 2, 3 and 4. Under VTS_02, there are 6 PGCs. I am slightly confused, there are only supposed to be 3 episodes on this disk, including the pilot. I suppose some of them are special features on the DVD, which I don't really need to encode.

So, I select each PGC into its own folder and take a look at them individually?

Edit - I think I see how they set it up. PGC1 is listed as over 3 hours long, which is what I ripped the first time through. It contained all the eps spanned across several 1GB VOB files. PGC2, is listed as 1hr33m long, the exact length of the pilot. PGCs3 and 4 both have 47m lengths, the length of a normal ep. So if I rip PGC2, 3, and 4, I should be good to go. I want to do the pilot ep over again, not too happy with the size it turned out.

Thanks for the help
