What are your opinions on WinAVI?

I've never used this app but it claims it can encode any AVI file to VOB files in double quick time.

I imagine the quality can't be that good. What options does it have? How well does it encode audio? What's it's authoring like?

How does WinAVI stack up against traditional MPEG encoders like TMPGenc and CCE+Avisynth?

I've tried it and made several dvds with it. The quality isn't up to the standard of any other encoders but it is very fast (twice the speed of anything else I've tried) ... but the dvds produced sometimes aren't compliant. The bitrate goes really, really high and causes my hardware dvd player to do a weird stuttery thing. I sometimes use it when I just want a quick job to get something on the telly and don't care about a glitch here and there.

Give ConvertXtoDVD a try. (formerly DivXtoDVD) It is also fast but is much better quality than WinAVI. I typically get conversion rates of 75fps (x3.0).

I don't care for winavi's results. I like more control over my projects, but it is fast.

FAVC stands for FreeAVI Video Converter so I'm making that as a replacement to WinAVI. It has replaced it for me, but there are still some bugs and probs.
