I've been backing up my DVDs for some time and think I'm doing a fairly good job with the encoding process. However I realized that since all of my DivX movies were made and encoded by me I really have nothing to compare them against! SO.. I'm asking of some forum members would mind giving me a critique of this short clip. I think it looks ok except for being a little grainy. Not quite sure how to clear that up though.

Settings used:
1CD at 700MB
Used Quarter Pixel and Adaptive Multiple Consecutive B-Frames
Bitrate Modulation of -0.02
4 passes
128Kbps VBR audio

looks kinda bad. did you use any filtering? it seems as though the codec eats alot of bitrate trying to account for all the noise.

No... no filtering at all. Source was clean .VOB files dvddecrypter. No post processing either.

I think it looks rather ok (especially for DivX). I have bought this DVD recently myself and I did a rip with DivX, too. Mine looks a little better with a little less noise, though... :)

Thanks :) What settings did you use to encode? Maybe I can make this thing a little better.

Downloaded the clip, but I'm sorry to say that the quality is not that good, looks like an analog capture converted to Divx.

If the source was the DVD version, it shouldn't be analog.
I have to confess however, that I did use "Very good quality" in the DivX menu, which is still reasonable fast on my dualcore Athlon...

pls can someone suggest a way to make divx video out of dvd's that is 100% sap compatible, dr. divx is not that good right now?

avi.net is very sap oriented, haven't tried it though.

I would consider the total time taken will be as long as 2-pass with 264

seriously consider H264, for 1 CD backup..... H264 can yield significantly better result than DivX
