Ive done this twice now with the same result, approx every 5mins the film stutters but will return to normal if I pause then play again. Its not my dvd cause it does it on all 3 I own and on my pc dvdrom. I ripped the files with DVDFAB Express 2.900 and converted with DVDRB PRO 1.06....Anything special I need to do with this movie to get a good copy  Heres my log file.

Do a search of the rebuilder forum using "widowmaker" as your criteria. Read the last two pages on K-19. The PAL version of that title was very incorrectly authored on the original. There are numerous places throughout the title where the audio presentation times are later than the time they arrive at the encoder.

Sorry... but it's a flaw in the original.

This sounds ( no pun intended) like fun. I have K-19 PAL but have not made a back up yet. Is there nothing that can be done/ tried ? would it make any difference using CCE or HC ? If there is a flaw in the original why does it not show when the original is played but only when backed up ?

All I can tell you is that the original is not compliant with DVD standards. As to the "whys" --- I have no idea. I do know that I spent way too much time on it... and was very disappointed to find out how poorly it was authored. I'm not going to do it again.

In the portion I worked with there are sections of the disc where the presentation time (PTS) is earlier than the system clock reference (SCR) of the pack delivering it. The player would have to go back in time to play it....later than the time they arrive at the encoderHmmm... I meant to say "decoder"...

Thanks - Having read the old posts I can now see why you would not want to do it again. Anyway have just watched the part where the sub goes to sea.... and the result was exactly as predicted -- the DVD stutters and then recovers.

i managed to do a sucessful copy using dvd-rb and another utility, it might work for you. Bear in mind I usually only keep the film for backups, the rare time I watch the extras more than once I get the original out.

Create a film only backup as normal using dvd-rb and you will get a resized copy of the film but dvd-rb faithfully (as it is designed to) duplicates the timings too perfectly and reproduces the wierd psydo-protection on this film too.

to fix this protection, demux the streams and remux/reauthor them using muxman. Muxman must completely rewrite the timing codes or something as it fixed it for me. I don't know if you will be able to remux this back into the menu's etc ifoedit wouldn't work as it would use the timings from the original ifo's. But if the film is all you bothered about then this worked for me
