Lost ability to use Nero video decoder DSfilter in zoomplayer/WMP6.4 (WORKS IN WMP10)

I did a clean-reinstall of the latest Nero Vision Express 3, Nero 7 Ultra (and all the plugins).

After the clean re-install.. I can't use the Nero decoder unless I use Windows Media Player 10. I didn't have a problem using them in Zoom Player before the reinstall

The content I'm trying to play was all encoded with Nero Recode (which used to play fine in Zoom Player).

When I try to play the file in WMP6.4 or Graphedit, I get a strange error:

An Operation Failed Due to Certification:

It's a new feature of monopoly capitalism... more to come in the future! Seriously, though, I think this issue has been commented on before in the forum (use Search). With version 7, Ahead decided to lock the directshow filter to only a certain list of applications. All others are not allowed to form a graph with it. And this is a product that you pay good money for.

See, they can't stand the thought (heaven forbid!) of their directshow filter being used in some evil competitor's player or other app. To this end, they will (like many other softwares published recently by large profit-hungry corporations) do their best to lock you in to their 'system'. It is more important to them to 'lock their competitors out' than to allow you to have the freedom you are paying them $$$ for. This is the ultimate evolution of a capitalist system - toward greater and greater monopoly and ultimately dictatorship. You pay them to have the privilege of being screwed.

I refuse to support such corporations by not buying their products.

Someone needs to reverse engineer them and release the source code to the filters just to spite Ahead for being a bunch of assholes. I bought Nero 6 before this fiasco and it is the last product I will buy from them.

In fact, I believe a certain group slithering thru the nighttime shadows in lands far removed from here is doing so. However, since such actions are probably not legal, my commentary ends here... besides, isn't CoreAVC all about getting the masses off that vile Ahead stuff and onto something sweeter (and much faster)?

I searched and searched on this forum before posting. I didnt see anything related to the certification error message I'm getting in Graphedit/WMP6.4 Are you guys POSITIVE I am running into the same limitation you guys are describing? Do others who have this problem get the same error message?

What puzzles me is that I am fairly certain I was using these filters in Zoom Player using the same version. How sure are you guys that what I'm experiencing is by design?

BTW: I dont have any problems using Nero's Quicktime DS filter in ZP and graphedit,etc.

Can somebody please PM me if there's a way around this that cant be mentioned here?

Yes, I'm absolutely positive. You will never be able to play a file with the Nero 7 DS filter in anything but a short list of applications. You can rename your player, though. It checks the .exe name.

Thanks! Renaming Zoom Player to recode.exe did the trick.

For what it was worth, I tried looking for recode.exe in NeVideo.ax using a hex editor.... no luck.

Haha. Ahead is a bunch of noobs. Renaming the exe works. They should have implemented a hash check on the .exe or something so that that wouldn't work.

I think allowing MCE adn WMP to use the filters one pays for is not unreasonble.

To be honest, I wonder if the "suits" know that <1% of poeple want to use neroshowtime to ONLY play 1 type of file. I bet they want 1 app that works

The problem is usually the presence of "suits" in my experience.

Delusions of grandeur in emulating their monopolistic heroes at companies like Apple and Microsoft.

A pretty good judge of when someone's software is about to become infinitely less useful than it presently is, is when their website gains "PR" and "Company" info and/or starts posting job openings for said "suits".

Better VBR settings in the audio encoder would be nice. I.E. being able to set it to a certain bitrate at intervals of 8 or 16. A lot of times LC-AAC 5.1 streaming is too high and internet is too low.
