IFOEdit questions

I used DVD Decryptor to rip one of my DVDs to my harddrive and then I used IFOEdit to split it into two discs. I think I followed the procedure for doing this pretty closely. I checked the files in the two discs afterwards and they matched what the procedure said they needed to be. After I completed the main procedure, made the disc region free and removed user prohibitions and then clicked on get VTS sectors. Then I used Nero 7 to burn the DVDs by selecting DVD-Video. I copied all the VIDEO_TS files from disc 1 on my harddrive into the VIDEO_TS folder in Nero and burned the disc to a +R drive. I did the same for disc 2. Disc 1 will only play if I put it in the DVD drive on my pc. I've tried it in 3 desktop DVD players. One gives me a U11 error. One just says stop after trying to load the disk and the third one will say NO PLAY and it gives me a hardtime when I try to remove it. I have to turn the power off. Turn it back on and quickly hit the open button before it tries to read it again. But like I said this same disc plays without any problem on my pc. On the other hand disc 2 plays fine on all three machines I've tried it on. Any idea what I did wrong with disk one?

Do I need to do the region free, remove user prohibitions and Get VTS sectors steps? Or can I just stop after IFO splits the movie. I checked off all the setting the same as what showed on the Doom site in the procedure "Split a DVD to 2 DVD-Rs. This is what was checked: Correct Vob-Unit (Navigation Pack) pointer in VOB-fiels, Correct original IFO files, Split to 2 DVD-Rs, Create Subfolders Disc 1 and Disc 2, remove P-UOps, Remove Macrovision, Adjust Vob-Unit pointers, Adjust Audio/Subp point and AutoCopy Menu files to destination directory.

Would removing user prohibitions remove something necessary in the menu?

I think this is related to your attempts in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=106330). But no matter.

IfoEdit (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/) does a reasonable job of splitting but IMHO VobBlanker (http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm) is best. See guide on site.

If you wanna use IfoEdit (http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/), you can make the DVD Region Free, Remove P-Uops (if you didn't do this already). However, one thing you must do at the end is a GetVTS Sectors if it is to play on a standalone player. Removing U-ops does nothing to the menu (except you can use the next and previous remote buttons to move between menu screens, which shouldn't be able to be done in reality).

The fact that your DVD doesn't play on a standalone player but does on your PC probably has more to do with media compatibility. See here (http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers).

Also, since your problem has nothing to do with decrypting, you might like to post in IFO/VOB Editors. You'll get more traction there.

You're right. It was part of the same problem. I did find that if I use Nero Recode to burn the files I split with IFOEdit that they play fine in all the players I tried, so it seems to me that it has something to do with how I'm burning them in Nero Burning ROM. I've been using DVD, DVD-Video and then the defaults that come up. I noticed that Recode did a burn-at-once and it finalized at the end.

Using DVD-Video, the option to finalize is checked and greyed out, but at the end of the burn it says that it is writing some UDF something (I think), but I don't see where it says that it is finalizing. Maybe it does and it just doesn't tell me. Are video DVDs suppose to be ISO or UDF or both?

I'll check and see if there is a forum specifically about burning, and I will try VobBlanker next.

And my discs are Verbatim so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

I did "waste" a few discs doing this. They do work on the pc, so they're not a total waste. But I did learn some things - like how to split it at a more appropriate place. The first one I did split it in the middle of a chapter. So I guess that was worth wasting a few discs. Anyway...

but I don't see where it says that it is finalizing.NERO's finalizing the disc when it says, "writing leadout"...

By the way, the "DVD-Video" mode (which IS the correct mode to use) is a combination of "UDF" and "ISO" - so that it makes the burne DVD compatible for both PC playback and standalone DVD player playback...

I did buy one of those Sony external burners and tried burning the files I created with Nero onto DVD-Rs and they all play in my desktop player so I guess my desktop players don't care for +Rs too much. Thanks for all the help.
