View Full Version : do I need double-mounting for my ISO project...?

hi, i need some advice on an image storage project, i have lots of .ISOs on my hard drive and i want to copy them to DVDs and free up lots of space. i want also to run the ISOs from the DVD, i dont want to have to copy an iso image to the hard drive so i can use it. the only way i see it, is to double mount one time physicaly(placing the DVD into the DVD-drive) and second - mounting the ISO image to a virtual drive using deamon tools for example. this way i think it wil work, but it is a little bit too complicated. does anyone know a simpler way, for example a special software (tool) which will make your physical DVD drive to act as a virtual one also, and will mount your ISOs directly without the need of having secondary virtual drive. any other suggestions will be also appreciated...

Hi!

No need for "double mounting". The VLC player can play the .ISO image files directly from your burned DVD...

if it's a .iso you can simply burn it to DVD using nero by loading the .iso image directly from the file menu. it'll burn it into the actual DVD format.

It looks like I misinterpreted the original post to this thread as meaning "roise_r" was looking for a way to avoid mounting ISO images that alreay reside on the hard drive...

I think he's looking for soemthing that will read actual .iso files that are burned onto a dvd disc, from his dvd drive without having to virtually mount the files.
I would just do what ChronoCross says as media is nice and cheap these days.

hi, again... one ISO is arount 650-700MB, so i want to burn at least 6 ISOs per DVD, not only for price but physical space-saving also (i dont want to have thousands of DVDs running around my room:D )... and as I understand you are saying to burn each ISO individually

hi guys, it's me again, i am asking becouse i want to play my ISOs as normal CDs, like i would when i insert a CD in my CD-ROM drive. i read the VCL specifications, and i was left with the impression that it will read my ISOs but not act as mounting device, meaning that it will act as WinISO for example, and i was looking for something that will work with game messages like "Please insert play disc...", so I don't know if VCL will do that, when i load the play disc ISO from my DVD through VCL will it act like normal mounted CD...? i dont know if i made this clear enough... :)

I have used Alcohol 52% in the past, and had no problems with some (not all) types of CDs that used copy protection. I haven't tried mounting CD ISOs that were burned on a DVD though.

You can download a trial I think. If not, I don't know what to suggest, other than Nero ImageDrive!

The first stage (putting the DVD in the drive) is obviously not circumventable. As your PC isn't psychic, you're going to have to select one of your six ISOs, so the second stage is also necessary. In this sense it has to be a two-stage process...

... but you can minimise the work by e.g. setting up your PC so double-clicking on one of the ISOs mounts it using Daemon tools. (You will need to read up on the commandline interface for Daemon tools, and maybe a little on batch files, and then edit the ISO file association from Windows Explorer.)

yeap, i think this is the only way... not very inspireing, but what the heck, plus that, I dont need mounting for all my ISOs, only for those which enquire the CD to be present in the CD-ROM drive...

Check out Fastmount (http://fastmount.normanbauer.com). Small, automates the doubleclicking process, and lets you select the drive to mount it on (if you use several).

Addendum to what I said: it might be possible to automatically mount all the ISOs, but this would result in them all AutoRunning at once, which is unlikely to be what you want...

yeap i thought of that:), but then i realised that some files in different ISOs, for example DIABLOII install and play disk have the same name of the main data file (i cant recall what was the file's name right now) but the point is that they cannot load both at the same time, couse the computer will get confused or something..:)
