Is there a file size limit to mp4 files? AVI files can only be about 2GB in size (as I've come to know) and I was wondering if mp4 had any such limitation?

I shouldn't think so. AVI's 2 GB limit was the limitation of RIFF. The only limitation you may have is FAT32's 4 GB one.

MP4-files are unlimited in size

I would suppose that would be so, but NTFS is not limited in that way so we should be good to go with 20GB video files. :)

But seriously, that's a bit much. 8.4GB though might be a possibility then....
