are those strange named audio codec, like some aac, aac+, aac+v2, aud-x, vorbis, raac, ac3, mp4, cook, and other have higher audio quality then mp3?

YES!, if the bit rate is same as low as others, mp3 have bad sound.
NO!, if high mp3 bit rate(192 or higher) compared with low other's bit rate (32 or some range of that), example 192 mp3 vs 32 aac+v2 ps, mp3 is the winner.

how about among them have same high bit rate?
sorry, i had tried this one and mp3 kept the winner.

how about others codec have higher bitrate than mp3?
sorry, i had tried this one and mp3 kept the winner, again ;-).

sample case:
--------------------------------------
file to encode : "Evanescence:bring me to live".
tool for encoding : BeLight, i got it from realanime LE
tool to watch quality: winamp 5 (date of download 10-01-2006)
what to watch : winamp AVS (advanced visualization studio), classic skin
second of investigate : 00:00:52 (... home. WAKE ME UP .....)

result:
--------------------------------------
mp3, on that second gave a strong audio. other's still gave a weak audio, but vorbis(ogg) was stronger among other's.

testing limitation:
---------------------------------------
1. file to encode is mp3 type. "bring me to live.mp3", 192, 44100, stereo
2. when i encoded to wav, 16 bit stereo, gave same weak audio on that second.

was my testing fear?, sory if it wasn't .... :D :helpful:

there was just a 128kbit listening test at http://www.maresweb.de/listening-tests/mf-128-1/results.htm
summary of the results:

and check http://www.hydrogenaudio.org forums too for audio information :)

And if you want to compare them yourself,
decode all versions to .wav (with eg. Winamp's diskwriter), then load them (and the original) into ABC/HR (http://ff123.net/abchr/abchr.html).

And listen to them. Watching a visualisation doesn't tell you anything about quality. :)
