Transfer DV to PC

I realize that this may be a dumb question, but I'm at a loss so here goes. I have a JVC model GR-DF450 (digital video camera). The manual is not very comprehensive. My question is how do you transfer the video to a PC? It comes with a USB cable, but as far as I can tell it only transfers data from the memory card. I know that I can transfer video using the three connector AV cable, but that seems like a step back.:confused: Anyone have any experience with this camera? Thanks.

You transfer DV to a PC through firewire, also known as i.Link, or IEEE 1394. You need a firewire cable - there are three variants: 4 pin to 4 pin, 6 pin to 6 pin, and 4 pin to 6 pin. You probably need the latter, because most camcorders have a 4 pin plug, whereas PCs typically come with a 6 pin firewire port (although laptops often have a 4 pin connector only).

If your PC does not feature onboard firewire, then you need to purchase a firewire card (which often has a cable included). Be aware of expensive offers - you may see firewire cables from $2 to $30, and they are all the same quality...

Thanks. I'll give it a try (as you suggested I'll have to buy the firewire and PC card). Do they (the firewire cards/cable) generally come with software for transferring?
