No more then $5.00



I want all DVD's to be encoded at 480P with a video bitrate that doesn't go below 6.0Mbps 2 audio streams max, 1 subtitle option. Anything else put it on a separate disk.

The player should be able to change the language of the subtitles to your own language.

I want the Disk to never cost more then $16.00
And I want no copyright protection. This isn't HD


If I want better I want something like a Blue Ray disk in a jacket, not required but can be used, like the sony mini disk. I want 1080P on the disk. I want no more then 2 audio streams and no more then one subtitle choice.
It can have any type of encryption thay they want to put on it, But it better work on my HD TV. The disk should never cost more then $40
They should only sell this in quantities for popular movies and in limited quantities for no-so popular movies.




Cheap DVD with quality that will make most people happy at a price everyone can afford, no need to pirate it.
( I personally think that 70% of the DVD's on the market have crap for bitrate and a horrible transfer, at least the recent trend is that some of the new releases are getting better. Maybe by the end of 2006 It'll be 60% :)


High Bitrate perfectionist HD content in 1080P no going out and buying another format. It has 1080P content. It's protected by a mechanical jacket so no more scratches, Allow copies to be made at 480P only. Most people would be happy with a ~GOOD~ high bitrate 480p copy.

I've personally seen bad DVD's good DVD's and HD movies in various bitrates.

I have a rather small collection of movies personally. About a hundred or so DVD's


These are movies I will not purchase till they are available in HD

Garbage movies do not sell period. That is why the discount bin at walmart is always overflowing.

SVCD's are not bad if the bitrate is high enough, and yes you can burn SVCDs to DVD disks, It works even better if you use DVD lab and create an actual DVD format disk with SVCD information on it. All you have to do is lie on the header file that your disk is 1/2 D1 of course it isn't but most DVD player will play it. use Mpeg 5.1 audio.
Better yet make THAT a standard.


SVCD = cheap cheap cheap and most people with older tv's cant even tell.

high bitrate DVD = quality for a good price, don't rip us off

HD 1080P Holy grail we will pay upwarns of $30-$40 as long it does what we want it to. Let us make a 480P copy. And I do not want a $40 disk that is rendered useless if it gets dropped on the floor and gets a microscratch!

I want a dvd that has content, not resolution, if I cared about pixel count do you think I"d still play old 16bit games and some old 8bit games? hell no, I play and pay for what is worth the most for my money, if you sell me some cheap movie with shitty encoding(its not even that hard to do) I might be more willing to 'pirate' it rather than waste my hard earned money on something I"ll watch once and throw on a shelf, but if you make a good movie, like lets say, 'SAW' then I"m willing to go out and spend my money in it

You want a 2nd tier, high-quality format that isn't even supported by the vast majority of upcoming players and TVs, that has a free copy mechanism to allow you to make copies at current DVD quality?

It's wishful thinking for us to hope that the studios will atleast make good use of the enhanced codecs and capacity of the new generation. It's just plain delusion to think they'd ever consider your request.

I am not sure you directed this at me, but since I could interperate it that way I am going to respond that way.

Why not? DVD's are 480i or 480p when they were released most tv's had a horizonal resolution of about 250 lines. 480P was the high quality format and only the rich could even think about affording it. Now a days 480p isn't so high end. I figured if they want to offer me something with a high price I am going to set the bar high. It makes sense doesn't it?

I also said we should be able to make a "managed copy" at 480P. You should read up on what "managed copy" is. It is part of both the HD-DVD and Blue Ray Disk spec.

If you rip apart a DVD's cost using bare bottom margins you will find that about $6.00 of it are licensing fees $5.00 for content and the rest is middle man markup . It is no wonder that DVD's rarely sell under $10.

My proposal was to use SVCD content on a single layer DVD. This should cost about $2.00 in licensing fees, Content fee's they need to lower since it IS a lower quality ( HINT HINT ) and middle man fees would be at the end.
You end up with SVCD end disks on a single layer DVD for about $5 like I said strip it down, take out the surround sound audio if you want. This is low end. If you build it they will come.

Of course they could just lower DVD prices under $10 and almost get the same effect. However I believe untill someone can purchase a movie for $5 people will still pirate. All you have to do is give them the movie at slightly better then VCR quality with stereo sound. THe consumer will buy it.
