Problem with video sample size

Hello

For some reason when I'm encoding DVD with Xvid 1.1, The final avi video sample size is only 12 bit (instaed of 24 bit).

It happened when I use avisynth + virtualdab or avidemux.

When I'm using VFAPIConv + virtualdub it's seems to be OK (24 bit video sample size).

Can anyone knows the reason?

This number is bogus and simply indicates *input* colourspace used. In virtualdub, full processing will tell you 24bit while fast recompresss will result in 16bit. Don't listen to it, it's all BS.

All mpeg video is, in reality, 12 bit.

If you want to looks like a 24bit then in avs script on end add ConvertToRGB()

What matters is that the video is absolutely OK; whether or not Windows thinks it is 12 bit.

VFAPI converts video to RGB, that's why Windows shows the '24 bit' info. Converting to RGB is an unnecessary colorspace conversion that is lossy. So - DON'T convert to RGB, don't use VFAPI! Windows doesn't know S***!

You might wanna look at the sticky posts in the avisynth forum, there (ued to be) a thread about the YV12-process-chain.

Also, reading the guides on www.doom9.org might be a good start.
