new xvid introduces some profile settings
ie
home theatre pal which i assume is to comply with the divx home theatre pal profile ?
It disables GMC/quater pixel etc as these aren't required by this 'divx' profile.
It also 'greys' out the box which says packed bitstream
but it forces this setting on, which seems a bit crazy as packed bitstream can cause problems with some hardware players. So why is xvid forcing this setting on ?
thx

Because the DivX profiles do nothing different. The specs are quite clear in that matter.

I don't get it
technically from the divx home theatre profile listed on the divx site
it says max sequential b-vops as 1. But it doesn't say anything about packed bitstream. I assume that this limitation is when using the packed bitstream option. But in xvid when you select the home theatre profile it forces packed bitstream on, but at the same time it gives you the default value of 2 for max consecutive b-vops which according to the divx certification is non compliant, which seems a little crazy. Or am I miss understanding something here ? It seems to me if you are going to force packed bitstream on with this setting that perhaps you should also force max consecutive b-vops to 1 to conform to the divx home theatre profile ? Or simply not force packed bitstream on.

DivX HT does 1 consecutive bframe with packed bitstream enabled. Yeah, I guess it should change them to 1 if they are > 1. Wouldn't be hard to do.
If you use my MTK PAL profile you can have 2 bframes and packed bitstream disabled, but still with the HT VBV settings. You will still find GMC greyed out though since MTK (nor any other chipset for that matter) can't handle 3 warp point GMC.
