They're probably having the same problem I was. The site is not down, but it seems that a lot of people cannot connect to it. I can't connect to it via a direct connection. I can connect (slowly....) through any free proxy server. I suggest you either try this or use a different build.

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at files.x264.nl.

I can connect to the site just fine.

The server has an ".nl" in it. Is it really located in Holland or does it redirect to a server in another country?

I had a similar problem with www.videolan.org some time ago.
After I disabled IPv6 I could connect just fine. Do you have IPv6 enabled?

If you use Windows, just run CMD.exe and type:
ipv6 uninstall

That's it!

And what possible side effects might this have? Can it be undone at a later time if desired?

You won't be able to use ipv6 networks. Of course in the us and europe, it's almost impossible to find them anyway, they're mostly popular in asia. You can easily reinstall it though a network's "connection properties"->install or command "ipv6 install".

would this be the same thing as Microsoft TCP/IP protocal Version 6? In which case I don't have it installed and still cannot access files.x264.nl

You can install IPv6 with ipv6 install and remove it with ipv6 uninstall at any time you like. For me uninstalling IPv6 fixed some problems. I didn't encounter any "side effects" so far. I think at the moment, IPv6 is *not* installed by default.
