View Full Version : xvid file has identical size - no matter what bitrate chosen...

hope this isnt a (too obvious) one.
i've been encoding xvid with virtualdub for a long time without problem - until now.
basically, i encode pass 1 of a file.
then for pass 2 i specify a bitrate.
however,
no matter what bitrate i choose, the codec seems to ignore this, and produces a file of the same size each time.

it seems to have started since i used auto gordian knot to create a xvid a few weeks back - it did alter my codec settings which i needed to then change back to normal.

so my (uneducated) guess is that virtualdub is ignoring my chosen bitrate and taking it's cue from something auto gk left behind.

could this be the case? - and if not, is there another explanation?

thanks in advance!

You don't mention your XVID version......

I'd remove the XVID codec completely and then re-install the proper XVID v1.1 and try your procedure again.

Check the quantizers aren't restricted at all?
Is your chosen bitrate very high?
If it is high could it be encoding everything at Quant 2?
