Hello,

I decrypted a DVD (Blade Trinity) using DVD FabDecrypter and put it through DVD Shrink then burnt it but when I play it the subtitles won't turn off. I haven't had this problem before??? Any advice anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much,

Sam

Hi!

1) What happens if you press the "Subtitle" button on your remote control (one or more times)?

2) What happens if, from the DVD onscreen menu, you select "Languages" (or "Setup") and, under "Subtitles", you click "OFF" (or "None")?

3) Does your original, purchased DVD exhibit the same behavior?

Hello,

We don't have a subtitles button on our remote so can't use that one.

I've gone to the suntitles menue while the DVD is playing and selected "Off" for subtitles but when you go back to the movie they're still there. I also tried re-starting the movie and selecting "Off" for subtitles before it started but no luck there either. The original movie works fine. It's just bizarre....

We don't have a subtitles button on our remote so can't use that one.If it's a remote control that came with the standalone DVD player, I'm sure if you look carefully, you'll find such a button (Maybe it's got a caption other than "Subtitles")...

Your television isn't set to display "Closed Captioning", is it?

In some cases, it is not possible to turn the subpics off.

- When the Subpic Change PUO is set in the PGC. You can disable it with PgcEdit, or, when ripping, with DVD Decrypter. DVDFab Decrypter should remove it anyway.

- When the Subpic Change PUO is set in the VOB files. You can disable it when ripping, with DVD Decrypter. DVDFab Decrypter should remove it anyway.

- When the subpics are forced in the subpic stream itself, in the VOBs. You can toggle the "forced start" flag with DVDSubEdit.

- When the subtitles are hardcoded in the image. Of course, in this case, it is impossible to remove them. But it's very rare.

if none of those conditions are present it could also be dvdshrink - it's possible it could have broken the menu commands somehow, so maybe subtitles off doesn't contain a (proper) command, or maybe the subtitles off menu button got linked to subtitles > english. have you tried the menu links to turn the subtitles on to see if they work?

@wallbert

Hi!have you tried the menu links to turn the subtitles on to see if they work?

Your question has previously been addressed by Sam80, earlier in this thread: I've gone to the suntitles menue while the DVD is playing and selected "Off" for subtitles but when you go back to the movie they're still there. I also tried re-starting the movie and selecting "Off" for subtitles before it started but no luck there either.

whoops, i broke the last part of the sentence... have you tried the menu links to turn the subtitles on to see if they work? should have said:
have you tried the menu links to turn the subtitles on to see if that works?
if the subs off button activates the subtitle stream, maybe the [/i]subs on[/i] button was replaced with the subs off command. it's unlikely, but it could happen. sorry for the confusion!

You can turn them off by default in DVD Shrink (if you use that). Do this:

http://www.dvdshrink.info/guides/forcing_subtitles.gif

(In step 3, select 'hide subpicture')

Or, you can use 2COOL's guide to doing this in PgcEdit (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html) - see here (http://www.videohelp.com/~r0lZ/pgcedit/third_party/2cool/subtitles/subtitles_off_default_pgcedit.htm).
