Help Identifying odd Noise on DVB Recording.

Recently, I've been noticing these strange flickering black lines on certain scenes of a couple of DVB recording's i've taken:

The noise seems to be present in the original signal, so i'm pretty sure its not some sort of interference. Signal quality/strength is in the high 90's, so i'm certain its not a signal integrity issue.

As far as hardware is concerned, I'm using a Hauppauge Nexus-S DVB PCI card to record.

I've never seen this type of noise before, and I've found nothing that looks similar to it in any of the denoising threads/guides I have read. Quite frankly I'm stumped.

Any help identifying the noise is greatly appreciated. :D

This noise is not odd. There was atleast a mention about it. It only occures
"left to right" and "dark to light."

Was mentioned (if I remember correctly) that it was the result of the broadcaster trying to "improve" the look of the material.

No known way to eliminate it.

I see what you see on the same broadcaster. I've e-mailed them. They don't
reply.

Seems that tonight the "meteors" are few.

Perhaps they got enought complaints?

Follow up:

I've had limited success eliminating the noise with descratch. Unfortunately, the blur it leaves behind is far more distracting than the noise itself.

Admittedly, i've only tried the filter on the sample clip, it may provide better results on a scene containing color.


Hartford: Yeah, I had a feeling it was something wrong on their end. Still, a damn site better than what i've seen on comedy central (dot crawl, low bitrates, ghosting, etc). Thanks again.

I remember seeing those all over all the "wild feed" analog satellite-capped VCDs back before everyone started doing HDTV rips of network eps. Maybe the feed to the digital sat provider is analog?

well, the source is definitely ex-analog (but i see no rainbows, so it may not be ex-composite). you can tell by the VITC visible in the top of the frame.

as for those lines, i have no idea. maybe some kind of noise reduction that's being messed up by too-sharp transitions?
