Long Way 'Round - Poorly mastered?? unintentional copy protection??

Was curious if anyone had come across this DVD yet.
I am attempting to backup my "Long Way Round" 3 disc Canadian DVD set.
It's the motorcycle documentary that Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman did of their round the world motorcycle journey. Discs 1 and 2 were no problem, disc 3 is seriously screwed up. It plays fine in the dvd player but gets very weird errors in DVDDecrypter. It rips to the hard drive but Shrink won't load it, DVDRB gets errors, Autogk fails, fairuse fails, PGCedit says it's not a valid dvd, Vobblanker crashes. Here's my DVDDecrypter log if anyone can help. Not sure what happened with this one. Seems like it is mastered very poorly.

One more thing - the newest DVDFABDecrypter gets an error and says - "Get DVD information fail. 4096" Crashes at that point.

Just noticed something else. In IFO ripping mode of DVDDecrypter. VTS_02 doesn't even show up as an option to rip. Seems like the IFO for VTS_02 is invalid. This of course mucks up everything for reencoding apps. Is this the ultimate copy protection??

I thought the same thing too. It copies to the HD with all files intact though, just those weird errors.
I was finally able to get shrink to load it up by deleting VTS_02.*** and loading it up in IFOedit and removing any reference to VTS_02.***. Shrink then loaded it correctly. The odd thing is I played the VOB from VTS_02, Its only about 10 minutes, there is no way to access this video segment from the menus. There isn't any way to play this segment unless you decrypt it to the HD and play it manually. Very strange.

I found out where it's supposed to play. In the extra's menu there is a title called "Interview". When I try to play it on the home DVD player it just hangs, when I try to play it in Power DVD it crashed. This is with the original DVD. Honestly, I think they just really screwed up the VOB and the IFO for this particular segment. It's not a dirty or scratched disc, brand new, not getting any "cyclic redundancy check" errors or anything. Like I said DVD Decrypter in IFO mode doesn't even list VTS_02 so I know something is wrong with the IFO's. Oh well, I got around it as usual so no problem in the end, just have to reauthor that one VOB and stick it back in the backup DVD somewhere.

strange. if there's no physical damage to the disc, and no CRC errors then something very strange has happened. contact the authoring house - they may have had a batch go wrong.

perhaps there was something wrong with their compile? Spruce's premaster programs (maestro or premastering tool) don't like multiprocessor machines, but obvious stuff like that should get picked up at the replication plant - they're usually quite strict, and reject masters all the time if there's something even slightly amiss.

Have you actually tested thre DVD for CRCs using DVD Info Pro/Ner0 CD DVD Speed?

You should return the set to the place of purchase in exchange for a new set. There's no reason a buyer should have to settle for a less-than-perfect product...

I just did a check with Nero CD/DVD Speed, came back with 100% good. No problems at all.
Yeah, i thought about returning it. I got it from Amazon.ca in Canada since the US version is only a 2 disc set and the Canadian one is 3 discs. Not sure if it's worth the trouble at this point since most likely all the sets are mastered the same.
