As some of you may already know, XviD's MPEG-4 SP/ASP direct-show decoder offers the following "Colour Output" options: -

..... Is this the sort of control flexibility you guys would like to see in CoreAVC?

Exactly, with a very good SpaceColor conversion routine (witout wich is not topnotch quality).

I was under the impression the MPEG-2 discussion was born out of people attempting to play MPEG-4 AVC within .TS.... which will soon become kinda crucial to us European HDTV voyeurs ;)

Anyway, going back to the "decoder settings" issue. I could not stop myself, so here's a starting point for a GUI: -

the topic clearly says "AVC Test Codec" and not "TCPMP is mature now" ...

lol @ SeeMoreDigital ... I never saw someone actually making a dialog to show it as proposal ...

I agree. Some parameters i think are of interest:

Resolution : xxx x xxx (ex. 640 x 480)
FPS : xx.xxx fps (ex. 23.976)
Colorspace : xxxx yy bits (ex. RGB32 32 bits or ex. YUY2 16 bits)

Excellent Proposal! That window looks pretty good to me, and yes I also agree that the blank box could be used for output stats. Hope this gets implemented =))

IMHO the File Information area should be a multi line text box or table.
Have to be able select and copy data from it.

like say 16:9 when its 4:3 and etcPersonally speaking, I've never liked the idea of "the decoder" offering "manual" AR adjustment. I've always been of the opinion that MPEG-4 video decoders should be devoid of such constraints, and be allowed to function freely, in much the same way MPEG-2 decoders are allowed to.

Besides.... most good software media players already offer "manual AR adjustment" anyway ;)

Technical issues aside, I guess there's no real limit to the type of "file information" that can be listed. For instance, this is what Neuron2's excellent DGIndex application can offer for MPEG-1 and 2 files: -

I think the better would be to do another separate TAB named "Informations", containing all the types of informations about the video.
So we have three TAB : "Options" containing the colorspace forcing, "Informations" containing all the statistic, and "About" containing the about :).Agreed

It just goes to show what can be listed.... Maybe there could be a way to display the "frame (ie: I, P, B, S and N VOP) types" in real-time too!

and while we're at it, why should't it brew your coffe as well? Or in my case get me a 0.5l glass of Ice Tea since I don't drink coffee. Come on... Here comes somebody creating only the best AVC decoder filter out there and the response is "gimme this gimme that gimme everything". I don't think I'd be the only one not to like that.

I don't understand at all this acrimony against a visual representation of what could be a good filter.
These are ideas, desires, and proposal that eventually Toff could even consider interesting to develop. Many people giving ideas are always better than one.
I repeat, i dont' understand your point at all :confused:

actually as coreavc is going to go commercial, things change a little bit as i dont see a problem in extensively bugging the devs with feature (or gui) requests in this case anymore ;)

D9... I actually dont mind SMD's suggestions (not sure about Toff though ;-)... and once we do the GUI for the DS filter... we can match the look for it in TCPMP as well as the .PLG's can have classes which can have properties... all we need to do is add the right click option which will be done for v1.0.
