i ripped a movie with dvd decrypter which had scratches. luckily the dvd decrypter finalized the process(with ignore read errors enabled). when i encoded the movie(using gknot) and played it i noticed this: the audio was in sync for the part of the movie before the scratch but it wasn't in sync for the part after the scratch. when i muxed the muted avi with thew original audio(.ac3) the was no problem. so it has to be something with besweet(i convert into mp3). any suggestions?

I generally see this error when copying my Videos to DVD.
Capture with Firewire, and whenever there is a 'bad' piece of video the firewire stops capturing video, but the audio is still captured - hence the two getting out of sync.
I am looking into ways of fixing this, but is hard.
Whenever there is a bad piece - the audio gets more and more out of sync. So between bad bits the audio sync is different times out of sync. Not an easy simple fix I think.

I think the problem is: your original.ac3 is corrupted, there are invalid frames inside.
Then, muxed in avi, these frames are played (or replaced by silence) but the sync is ok.
When you convert to mp3 these frames are ignored and the mp3 go out of sync. The mp3 is short (in time) than the original.ac3.

You can use DelayCut over your original.ac3 to fix these corrupt frames (option Fix or Silence) and after convert to mp3.
