I saw this player on sale for 28 CAD, thought I'd give it a shot since it can play DivX/Xvid. I know it's not the highest quality of players, but I'm trying to salvage as much from it as I can. So bear with me.:)
This things plays DVDs just fine. It's the Xvid movies (I download all the movies that I own onto Xvid format for backup purposes) files which it seems to stumble with, especially Indian movies. Now at first, there shouldn't be much of a difference between the two, but I guess there is. So far it has played every English Xvid movie perfectly (AC3/MP3 cbr/vbr audio, 1 disc or 2 discs). However, it is having problems with Hindi movies. The though part is that I can't find any consistant trait that the player faulters on. The REALLY weird part is that it will play disc 1 of the Indian movie, but won't play disc 2 (says "UNSUPPORTED AUDIO").
I did some testing, I chose disc 2 of an Indian movie that it didn't play. I stripped the audio track and played it as an mp3 in the player, it worked fine. However, when adding it to an AVI container with the video stream, it screws up.
I'm guessing this must be some kind of bug in the player with disc 2's, but since d1 and d2 are technically identical (assuming it was processed correctly), I'm becoming skeptical. Is it something to do with the way Indian movies are processed?
