Video and Audio not synchronized
I have a multi angle DVD and I tried many ways to rip to DVDRip, but all failed. The audio is about 2 seconds shorter than video, which makes a problem in final avi.
I tried many ways to solve this problem, but all failed. The ways I tried are:
1. in DVD Decrypter, choose file mode and uncheck “multi angle processing”, file split by “cell ID”. This way will separate multi angles into different files.
2. in DVD Decrypter, choose file mode and check “mulit angle processing”, “Retain angle” set to 1, file split by “cell id”. Then I got many vob files but all in angle 1, but still have the synchronize problem.
3. in DVD Decrypter, choose file mode and check “mulit angle processing”, “Retain angle” set to 1, file splitting is none. Then I got one huge vob file. I checked this vob file, video and audio are perfect, but after I used dgindex to decode to d2v and ac3, I found the d2v and ac3 are not the same length! About 2 seconds difference. Of course it results the problem again!
4. I tried dgindex 1.46 beta, 1.45 and all versions on it’s homepage, all the same.
5. I tried “honer pulled down flags”, “ignore pulled down flags” but not “force film”(because it’s not film). I also tried the options in “field options”, such as “none”,”TomsMoComp”,”Inverse Telecine”. Not work!
All ac3 files ripped by dgindex all have a name with “0ms delay”.
This DVD is NTSC, interlace, I tried just Rip the Extra, which doesn’t have multi angle, and it is perfect. So, how can I rip the main movie correctly? Is it a bug of dgindex? Or what the hell am I wrong?

Out of curiousity, why haven't you tried/used an IFO parsing mode and just ripped the correct PGC?

This DVD has more than 80 titles and I don't think it is possible to rip them all to vob at one time by ifo mode.

You want to rip my 3 Lord Of The Rings EE's in IFO mode - way more than 80titles lol.
Are you ripping individual titles and then joining them?
If so you'll definitely have a problem as the audio is almost always a different length to the video.
The way to do it is to take the length of the video and then subtract the length of the audio. What is left is silence at the end of the first video.
This length of silence is what you must delay the next title's audio by.
Although the next title's audio will now be out of synch, when it is joined to the first it should be completely in synch. You then do that for each avi you are joining.
The problem when joining is that the video is backed up to the end of the last video, and the audio is too - this creates a continuous stream. Unfortunately the audio is backed up to the shorter audio track so starts playing while the previous video is still finishing.
If this sounds like what the problem is and you need a clearer (!) explanation let me know and I'll put my teacher hat on!

As an experiment, you might want to try the following:
1) Use DVD Decrypter v.3.5.4 (Reset it to its Decfault settings) to rip in "File" mode (Select "ALL files", NOT "movie files")
2) Use MPEGMediator SPECIAL EDITION (NOT "plain" MPEGMediator) to select appropriate .IFO file and convert your video
(As an alternative, if you prefer, you could use Flask MPEG instead of MPEGMediator Special Edition - and SmartRipper instead of DVD Decrypter)

Yes, I do have a movie with a lot of titles(more than 150 titles, about 20MB for each vob) and I hope I can join them together as one movie.
If I understand you correctly, (actually I thought about this possibility myself, but not sure) dgindex is not possible to rip multi titles movies and make the A&V synch?
Here is an example:
If I have two titles of vob files,
the first one: video 100s, audio 99s
the second one: video 100s, audio 99s
then after decode by dgindex, I will get a 200s video and 198s ac3 file. And the second will never synch unless I set the delay manually?
Well, if so, how can I set the delay time for so many titles if there is no tool (such as dgindex) can help me?

I already tried SmartRipper, but to my disappointed, it can not rip multiple titles and angles at one time.
But I did try TMPGEnc 3.0's "Mpeg tools", and it rips the exactly the same ac3 file as dgindex does, not a single byte difference in length.
So, I doubt it if MPEGMediator is the same kind of rip tool as DVDDecrypter.

I'm pretty sure it isn't able to do that - I've tried opening multiple VOBs that were from separate titles and the sound was never right.
As far as I can tell, each title has it's own audio length denoted.
Here is an example:

You definitely understand what I was trying to explain. Yes.
The audio stream is treated separately from the video stream. The audio is just joined, then the video is joined, then when you have muxed them together they are out of synch.
You need to add that 1 second of audio at the end of video one. This will give you:
First one: video 100s, audio 99s + 1s of silence = 100s total
Second one: video 100s, audio 99s.
You will now get a 200s video and a 199s ac3 file.
You don't need to add the missing 1s to the second video unless you are joining a third video to that.

The more complicated part is how to add that extra second.
You don't add that extra second to video one, you add it to video two (at it's beginning)
The correct the audio at the muxing stage (I'd better quickly tell you my method for videos as different people have different methods).
1. I only encode the video - I keep the audio in ac3/dts format from the DVD.
2. I encode the video with XviD using VirtualDubMod.
3. This gives me an .avi with no audio.
4. I mux the audio to the video with AVIMux_GUI.
5. This program takes the video out of the .avi container and repackages it into a new .avi container.
6. It produces fully compliant .avi's (which I read most video programs don't) with control of rec-lists so the avi's can be very high bitrate but play back very smoothly, and for adding multiple audio tracks such as commentary.
AVIMux_GUI allows you to delay audio streams - positively (audio starts after the video has started) and negatively (audio starts before the video).
Nearly there! As it sounds like you are also using the ac3 files without altering them:
For joining two videos
1. Rip the first title.
2. Process the VOB with DGIndex to extract the audio.
3. Encode your video but don't worry about the audio.
4. Download HeadAChe from http://mitglied.lycos.de/darkav/.
5. Open the audio track using HeadAChe. This will display a precise length for the ac3 audio track, e.g. 21.472s
6. Open the video in VirtualDubMod and find out exactly how long your video is, e.g. 21.880s
7. Video length - audio length, e.g. 21.880 - 21.472 = 0.408 = 408ms.
8. The silence at the end of the end of this video needs to be 408ms long.
9. Use AVIMux_GUI http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/Video-Zeug/AVIMux%20GUI/to mux the video and audio together.
1. For the second video repeat steps 1 to 3.
2. You now need to add the 408ms of silence to the start of video two.
3. Mux the sound and video of video two using AVIMux_GUI but this time set the audio delay to 408ms.
1. Open video one and video two in AVIMux_GUI and it will join them both together.
That's it!
Video one on it's own - audio in synch
Video two on it's own - audio out of synch
Video one and two joined - audio in synch
IMPORTANT
This is assuming DGIndex states that the audio stream normally doesn't need delaying. For many titles, the audio has to be delayed anyway, whether you're joining or not. If so, you have to adapt the length of silence to be added.
If you're joining multiple files you have to continue to do each step and delay the audio for each part you're joining.
Finally(!)
This method certainly works for joining videos. When you said 80 titles I thought you meant ripping 80 titles rather than joining them.
The most I am joining with my LOTR EE is 14.
It takes a long time to do all this and can become a real headache - you'll need pen and paper to keep track!
setarip_old is suggesting different methods to join them during the rip which would certainly save a heck of a lot of time.
It is certainly possible to fix your problem but it's a huge time-consuming solution. It may be worth trying other methods at the rip stage first.

But just like you said, it's such a huge time-consuming solution. I'd rather die than calculating my hundreds of vobs from different title. (it’s a multi angle DVD, each cell id has a different title)
I wonder why dgindex doesn’t have this feather to auto add time delay in the audio file because this is really a problem when ripping multi titles movies.

You're most welcome - glad to give you some help - it can get soooo frustrating when you're at an impass!
I've given that information a number of times now and I fine tune it each time lol.
Yes - it should be quite possible to automate the process. I suppose it's not a feature that many have asked for yet and I did find some discrepancies with different programs reporting different lengths for ac3 audio.
No one has got back to me on that one...

No, it's not relevant. I thought it could be a mainstream DVD that I own, so that I could check it out myself.
I still think it may be worth your while to try my suggestion of using DVD Decrypter and then MPEGMediator Special Edition...

setarip_old, I tried MPEG Mediator SE 1.4.5.9, and to my disappointed, it failed too.
I don’t know why I can not rip AC3 by Mpeg Mediator, but I did ripped the wav file.
But this time it is different:
The movie (d2v) is 1:54:46.246 long, AC3 file I ripped by dgindex is 1:54:44.052, and the wav file I ripped from MPEG Mediator is 1:54:52.487. all of them are from the same vob file with multiple titles.
Any other ideas?

Problem solved!
But not by DGIndex!
It’s ProjectX!
First, I used ProjectX to dumux the vob file to a m2v file (video only) and a ac3 file (audio only).
Second, I still used DGIndex to generate the d2v file from the m2v file, but without processing the audio. (maybe ProjectX can do it alone, but I am not familiar with it.)
Then, use GK to rip it to an avi! It works!!!
The wonderful part of ProjectX is that it can analyze all cells id information in the vob, and try to generate a synchronized video/audio base on it. You can see the process information from the log window.
I wonder why DGIndex can not do it right while ProjectX can. I think it is a bug or, at least, it’s a very useful feature worth working on. I wish they will add this to their to-do list.
