View Full Version : AutoGK and encoding with DivX v6.1.1 vs v6.0.3

I know v6.1.1 is a lil' bit faster then the previous versions, but how is the quality compared with v6.0.3 ? Did they sacrifice the quality for the speed ?
I tried encoding same movie, with same setup in AutoGK (no compatibility checked).
First with v6.0.3, then with v6.1.1.
I let AutoGK choose the maximum resolution based on quality, with a size of 1400MB (2 CD's).

In the DivX 6.0.3 case the resolution after encoding was 672x288 while in 6.1.1 case the resolution was 656x288.

If the source was the same, AutoGK settings were the same, why this difference ? What makes the difference ? Does this result has anything to do with the quality of the encoded files ?

If I analyzed the files with MPEG4 modifier I get:
v6.1.1
Packed bitstream: Yes
QPel: No
GMC: No
Interlaced: No
Aspect ratio: Square pixels
Quant type: H.263

I-VOPs: 1548 (1.55%)

B-VOPs: 35394 (35.41%)
S-VOPs: 0 (0.00%)
N-VOPs: 0 (0.00%)

Max consecutive B-VOPs: 1

I can also post AutoGK logs if this would help.
Thanks a lot !

Hi,
but have you encoded a divx 6.1.1 avi with autogk?

In which way have you made autogk working with this Divx 6.1.1 version?

Yes, the v6.1.1 was encoded with AutoGK.
You have to patch the .DLL file so AutoGK will accept it or use the one already patched (see the sticky DivX6 thread). The size for the new (v6.1.1) one should be 573952.

If you can't find it, patch the .DLL yourself.
Download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/biew/biew562w.zip?download
and follow instructions provided by Len0x:
...
- get BIEW binary editor
- open divx.dll with it in hex mode
- goto 0008ABCD address (F5) and change(F4) 00 to 07, then update (F2)
...

Or just download the patched .DLL from here:
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/autogk.html

Worked for me...

This is a patched version of 6.1 's DivX.dll...
Not 6.1.1...

Infact,
Kentar...that was the dll of DivX 6.1 not of 6.1.1.....
Anyone some opinion?

Well, I went and downloaded latest version from the divx website.
The package I previously downloaded was 13MB, the current one is 16MB.
The current package says v6.1 but the divx.dll it's the same.
The size is 573952 and as version shows v6.1.1.2.
Compared the file with the patched one, the only difference is the 07 value instead of 00 at 0008ABCD address.

:p

As you know, AutoGK does not support 6.1. This include 6.1.x enhancements.

Moving to DivX forum, so you can discuss just who has what.

If you used the bundle from DivX.com and/or a patched DLL then you're using 6.1. 6.1.1 is available on labs.divx.com exclusively right now and contains some fixes that can affect quality.

Why did AutoGK change the resolution? Maybe the result of a compression test came out differently between 6.0.3 and 6.1 for the particular content sample tested, or maybe this was a result of some issues we fixed in the 6.1.1 update.

I haven't personally tested the very latest AutoGK with 6.1 or 6.1.1, but there's more involved then patching the version number in the DLL, so I'm not surprised you're having difficulty.

You were right DigitAl56K. Thank you!
Right now doing tests with AutoGK and v6.1.1.

Will tell you all about the results later.

Right now doing tests with AutoGK and v6.1.1.

Again, I wouldn't recommend this. AutoGK doesn't work properly with 6.1.1 (as far as I know), so whatever your output happens to be, don't be surprised if it's not what you expected.

After patching the .DLL and running some tests I can say I'm quite happy of the result. Works fine with AutoGK. Had no problems.
I'm sure Len0x would be able to tweak AutoGK to work with v6.1.1 perfectly.
