Further to Shrink VS Nero recode 2

I have used Lord of the Ring the two towers to test between these two programs and found Nero to be far superior in video quality. Compression was just over 61% so quiet bad and a good test. Shrink was set to smooth with deep analysis ticked and compress with adaptive error compression ticked. Block noise and other artifacts were much more visible using Shrink result than with Nero.
Shame cos I was hoping for the reverse.
Is there any way to set the startup streams in Nero, i.e. in Shrink you can set the startup audio and subtitles when re-authoring if you wish.

Why would the reverse be true? The guy who wrote DVDShrink was hired by Ahead to work on a commercial version of Shrink - Nero Recode. Now that he's getting paid, has greater resources at his disposal, and lots of development time spent solely on Recode, it would be surprising if Recode *wasn't* better than Shrink.

Incidentally I find using the "advanced" compression settings with DVDShrink to just slow down the speed considerably and not improve image quality much.

Yes I found the same thing. There is an improvement but not much and the time taken is bad.

Also I found that the sharpest picture was using "Very smooth" and the softest picture with "Sharpe".

By the way do you know if theres an answer to the second part of my post.

i have been using these two programs for most of my backups lately, and i can tell you, that in my opinion, they output the same quality, recode2 is much faster so, i use it more. shrink won't be updated again so, it is good to know that there is a obtion as good as it. Recode2 is now and will be in the future, an improved version shrink.

Point of correction arch angel16: dvdshrink does not work for Ahead. As for the advanced features of DVD Shrink, many people have found them to be a big improvement. Indeed, Ner0 Rec0de has implemented DVD Shrink's default "sharp" AEC routine in it.

i can never get recode 2 to work for me i keep getting an error cnnot locate file when it getts to burning . i use nero express

I thought the same guy who wrote DVD Shrink now writes Recode 2. Is this not true? The two programs are so similar I find it hard to imagine the two were not from the same person.

Although it's not really significant, don't be confused or misled. Although it seems to be common knowledge/belief that the author of DVD Shrink DID join Ahead NERO to initially develop NERO Recode, there are some who now contend that the author is NO LONGER with Ahead NERO...

That would explain a few things if true. Nero is EXTREMELY unresponsive about fixing bugs in Recode. If the author is no longer with the company, that'd definitely explain why.

Well I sure would like to see some definitive information on this one way or the other. So far, this seems like a lot of conjecture.

Whether he does or doesn't, it seems like Nero is buckling under to pressure from the big hitters about this whole copy protection thing.

Awhile back I wrote Nero tech support about the issue with Recode 2 not supporting two drives (currently have to use the burner for both in and out, DVD Shrink works perfect with two drives). They wrote back asking for the log file and it showed I had AnyDVD installed (even though I didn't have it open). Once I sent that to them, I never heard back from them. I had a feeling that was going to happen.
