DivX® codec 6.1.1 update available on DivX Labs

You can now download the DivX codec 6.1.1 from DivX Labs:

This includes all the updates previously found in 6.1 Patch 1 & 2 beta, as well as a few others. The 6.1.1 update can be installed over any version of the 6.1 codec, and will be included in the DivX Play and DivX Create bundles on DivX.com soon!

I test your patch:

- Very better sensivity for bframe
- Very better RC situation (portable, SD)

-> Better visual result in all situation (without curious high quant variation)
-> now DivX 6.1.1 is little better than XviD 1.2 in metric test. XviD (with best possible quality with fine tweak for RC) was very better than DivX 6.1.0 in previous test ...


Edit : But not for the HD resolution because always high quant variation problem ...

Probleme here is min PSNR. XviD use very constant quantizer and very constant quality but not DivX and only for high bitrate in HD resolution. In practice same min quality for 3000 Kbps and 6000 kbps encoding. I use Unrestricted profil but there are certainely max bitrate or vfv profil actived in these particular conditions ...

This is probably related to the VBV buffer size, you might try raising it further still. XVID is probably not applying a VBV during the encoding. Thanks for re-testing! :)

Well problem in my test procedure : I work with old job in VirtualDub and certainely with old vbv setting for 6.1.1 patch

Very good job for DXN : this time DivX 6.1.1 is better than XviD 1.2 in all my tests. I think that these little bug explain problem in doom's test for XviD vs DivX comparison ... !!?

it still doesn't look like it beats xvid other than the metrics tests. I'm not seeing any large increase in quality. at least bframes work this time around lol

quality is just very better in bug part (high quant variation in very high motion part in previous version).

Overall quality is just little better and very difficult for eyes to notice overall difference.

IMO it's very difficult to say "DivX is visually better than XviD" simply because XviD and DivX are visually very close ...

Hi there,

Sorry if I'm in wrong place.. for avoiding new thread.

There's a compatibility issue when DivX6 encoder is used from VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. Short description (so you can tryout by yourself):

1.From VirtualDub select DivX 6.1.1 Codec (=latest version) for compression.
2.Configure the Codec by selecting Video tab.
3.Enter 32 for crop left and 32 for crop right (other settings doesn't matter).

4.If VirtualDub didn't crash till now, confirm with OK.
5.If VirtualDub didn't crash till now, try to convert your source file.
6.VirtualDub should crash till now, showing some kernel32 error message.

This, of course, doesn't happen when DivX5 codec is used, so it could be DivX6 bug...

Now exit Configure codec in Virtual dub (but you may keep VirtualDub open):

1.Open the registry [HKEY_CURRENT_USER] and find:
Software/DivXNetworks/DivX4Windows/State
2.For above Codec you'll see here the entry:
06_01_01_01031_Tiger_WinCodecArtwork
containing last valid CLI values like:
-bvn1 1000000 -vbv 4854000,3145728,2359296 -c 8,16,40,40 -dir "C:\Program Files...
3.In this example, values "-c 8,16" define crop area (8=left, 16=right).
4.Now you manually change only those values to:
-c 32,32 (leave all other values unchanged)

Now again, in VirtualDub open menu Video>Compression... and try to select DivX 6.1.1 Codec -VirtualDub can't find it anymore! If you restore values in registry, VirtualDub will find DivX6 codec again.

So... where's the bug?

Works fine on my end. Did you install over divx 5 or did you do a fresh install? Try uninstalling both codecs and then do a registry clean and then install it.

had the same thing - basically, when i go into compression, alls fine till i choose divx, then it freezes. had this on 2 pcs. (this was with beta 2 released a few days ago)

updated to the newest (6.1.1) and 1 pc is ok at the moment, but the other still has vdub lockups as soon as i go to comperssion>divx.

no kernel errors etc.

my problem is i use synergy to control my pcs and this stops working when this happens. windows still runs in the background tho

I'm using VDubMod 1.5.10.1/2 to encode m2v files from DVD or DVB-S with DivX 6.1.1.
After the installation of DivX everything is fine for the first configuration of the DivX Codec (e.g. 1st pass or single pass). But when a try to configure the codec a second time VDubMod crashes in 90% of the cases already when selecting DivX 6.1.1 in the "Video/Compression..." menu. Even before I hit the "Configure" button. The error message is "error in module kernel32". The error occurs on both of my (very) different PCs with Win XP SP2 and with all DivX 6.x versions.
I found very rare reports with similar errors on the internet but no solution. The only solution I found was re-installing DivX.

Does anyone face the same problems or knows the reason or even has a solution?
